Xeon E5440 vs Xeon E5520

CPU 1 Xeon E5440 (2.83Ghz)
CPU 2 Xeon E5520 (2.26GHz)

Which one would you go with to process apache / php requests the fastest?

I am trying to figure out which one of these are better. My main concern is being able to spit out a PHP page as fast as possible. So, with no or little load on the server I want whichever CPU will respond to an apache request and spit out the page as quickly as possible.

I am not an expert on hardware and I have searched and searched for benchmarks, but these two processors never seem to appear together. So, which one of these would you pick? The faster clock rate or the better architect?

Well, the thing is I will be getting either system for the same monthly cost (a dedicated server).

What is most important to me is that pages can be spit out as quickly as possible. So, I am wondering if the increased clock rate of the E5440 will allow it to do that?

I know the E5520 can probably handle more concurrency, but I am not as concerned about that because I will just get another server.

keep in mind the 5520 does single-core turbo to 2.4GHz. so if you're really talking about one thread at a time, the question is of 2.4GHz bloomfield vs. 2.83GHz yorkfield. Would have to know all the specs of both systems to say anything more concrete, but I'd still get the newer technology.

Are you actually going straight to a dual socket setup or are you populating one socket now and one later?

(Are we comparing 2 x 5440 to 2 x 5520?)
