Xeon Compatibility with Abit AB9 Quad GT

Your board does not support 1333 bus, so an E5430 won't work.

You're in the same boat as me and the X3230 is the fastest CPU you can use.

with bios 17 it looks like the board supports fsb 1333 45nm quad core CPUs like the q9550.

most high end p965 c2d boards had bios updates to support 45nm 1333 CPUs
even if the chipset was designed for 1066 65nm CPUs

e5430 is a 45nm 1333 CPU just like the q9550 but, it's lga 771 so you would have to mod the MB/CPU, and my guess is that it would work.

the Asus p5b which uses the same chipset seems to work fine with the mod and 771 xeon

Interesting.. A BIOS update for my Gateway to do 1333 would be nice, but modding the socket & CPU would make me a bit nervous. An X3350 would be just as fast with no mods (other than the BIOS update).
