Is there any big advantage to use the XEON 2.4 instead of the P4 2.4? The cost difference may be about $100 or so, but whats the difference in speeds. (heard that the speeds arent the same)

is newer always better?

The FSB of the Xeon 2.4 is lower (533 vs. 800). However the Xeon can run in dual processor motherboards.

I know they both have HT enabled but I believe the older 2.4 xeon could have the older HT version...I am sure there was a rework or revision of it though I can't remember if there was a noticeable improvement other then possible bug fixes.

Yes the newer p4 2.4c has an 800fsb and the 2.4 800 will be better in a comparison as the p4 loves the bandwidth. Couple that with a Dual-Channel pc3200 setup and the memory bandwidth is considerably better.

Cost is a factor as well as the advanatge of dual processors will cost you more in adding the second cpu as well as the dual mobos run higher priced??? 2 xeons will be seen as 2 physical cpus and 4 logical cpus so that could be nice in some HT enabled apps....daul cpu rigs are seen more for workstation pcs (video and CAD) and less so for gaming....

Update: I think the xeon may have some added cache as well....however in a review I read back when the p4c's arrived it didn't make the difference the higher bus and memory bandwidth made...

Also ocing!!! I don't think you may have the luck ocing the xeon like the new p4c's...
