So I decided to give away my g3258@ 4.6 to my younger brother.
I kinda gambled with cpu (see this thread http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2448907), it cost low 200 and mobo, got used z87 for $40 on ebay. I already had decent 4x2gb ddr3 ram, which im running 2300mhz now instead of 1400 (w very tight timings
)on g3258. Total cost ~250.
How this cpu works is it is sort of like 4790s i7, but even lower volt/watts (65 vs 45w).
The max cpu multi would only go 33 on all 4 cores, but I bclk'd to 103, so I'm getting effectively 3400 with all cores 100%. Max turbo 1 core is now 4ghz. I'm cooling with same $20 fan I used on g3258 (i think CM T3), temps max out 70c on bench.
So here are some results comparing my 4.6 g3258@1.3 2c2t vs 1275L @ 4/3.4 4c8t
g3258 1275L
super pi1M 8.5s 9.3s
cpumark 4900 9700
cpuz single 1746 1475
cpuz multi 1686 4825
7zip NA ~21,000mips
cinebench15st 169 155
cb15 MT 335 699
firestrike+nv970 8242 9606
fstrike physics 4586 9617
So I guess the results are pretty close to xeon 1231v3/4770 nonk.
Multiplayer game so far that is noticeably smoother : rainbowsix beta, path of exile doesn't stutter in heavy mob areas. I haven't tested DA: inquisition yet, but it was unplayable on g3258,like 20fps, TW3 pretty choppy too, I will test those later but expecting improvement.
Edit: DA: inquisition apparently likes a lot of threads, went from 5-30fps choppy game to 60fps silky smooth with same gtx970
