Yep...I posted this in one of the myriad of "OMG! new forum software!" threads after the change.

This means the mods no longer have to nuke your password to read your PM's. :p

They have always had the ability to read PMs. Trust me.

Yup. As a forum owner, it's easy to do either with back-end only modifications, or just reading the database straight up.

I only ever had to do it once to mediate a dispute that had gotten really nasty over PM. I had no evidence that the person was being hateful, mysoginistic, and racist toward a teenage girl who was a member, and I couldn't take quoted messages as gospel, she couldn't figure out screenshotting, and the person wouldn't own up to sending them.

So I had to look through the databse. Wasn't proud of it, didn't like it, but he got an IP ban because he was an ahole.

Yeah, I run a phpBB driven forum and one of its features is to report PMs. So that helps not having to dig into the database or anything. On the other hand... LOL I do have two PM reading extensions. One to delete someone's PM's and another to read PMs.

Another thing is that I can read all out going E-mail from my site.
