Green Man Gaming have once again joined forces with the Golden Joysticks and 2K, and are offering all users a free copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown!! (while stocks last).

The Golden Joysticks mark a prestigious ceremony on the gaming calendar, where dozens of the year's best games are celebrated on a night of brilliance. There will be games from all genres, from all different kinds of studios. The most amazing thing? It's up to YOU who takes home one of the iconic golden joysticks on award night. All you have to do is cast your vote.

Voters will be able to claim their free copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown while stocks last. We'll post again very soon on how you can claim your free game but you can prepare in the first instance by voting in the Golden Joysticks - just follow the rather large 'Vote now' link below. As part of the process you will be asked to connect your Steam and Playfire profiles so you need to have a valid Steam account to participate and become part of Playfire Rewards to be eligible for a free copy of the game!

Games will be given to verified voters whilst stocks last. Voters have to be 18+

Note, Oct 23 is when you get the code...

Before you head off and cast your votes, here are the super important bullet points:

All voters (including existing voters) will be able to claim their free copy once voting has ended.
Voters will be directed to the free game giveaway site and from the 23rd of October using the email address you voted with, you will need to sign-up to Playfire (and link to Steam) in order to receive a verification email and game code.
The offer is "while stock lasts" and you'll have to be over 18 to claim.
Regular CVG readers will remember that last year this promotion nuked our servers from orbit. We've significantly increased our infrastructure since then, but please bear with us if you experience any problems.

Thanks for the heads up. I have no idea if I did everything correctly or not. I guess I'll find out later this month.

Odd that there's no confirmation and CVG only mentions the iPad drawing, not XCOM, but still easy enough and worth 5 minutes. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up! Have it on PS3 from when it was past of PS+, definitely looking forward to going through it on PC.

Definitely not linking my steam account to playfire, ill pass.

Why not? Free game, and you can always unlink. And afaik it can't track your gaming activity unless you install the client, which you obviously won't do.

It still tracks your activity. I linked everything when I first bought things from GMG and saw they had their "rewards" program. I've never downloaded the standalone Playfire client.

There's also no easy way to just unlink your Steam account that I can see.

All of this means nothing to me as I'm happy having things linked. I've already got $9 sitting to be used at GMG through Playfire Rewards. I'm just pointing it out for anyone who may have questions and would think twice about linking.

And I also got my code today.

This was a waste of time for anyone that's busy, you had to vote and link your account, then wait to get a message to claim your key "while supplies last" the site got crashed because people hammered it, and 1000's of people didn't get keys. It was first come first serve, pretty bs if you ask me.

It took literally 60 seconds to vote, and less to sign up/link accounts. And I had no trouble clicking a button to link accounts and get a key...

It is a fun game; pity I already own it. well maybe not pity since it is fun 🙂

btw what was that mod that was suppose to make it great ?

How does this work, exactly? I already have XCOM:EU, but I wanted to use the key for my son, who doesn't have it yet.

If I link to my Steam Account, does it just put the key in your GMG library, or does it activate it directly, like HumbleBundle now does?

Unless it has changed since codes started going out, you get taken to a page with your code on it plus an email. You have to go to Steam and redeem it.
