Xbox360/PS3 v/s This config for gaming

Hi guys.
I am in a dilemma. I am a big gaming fan.

Whether to go for a PC or a gaming console!

The PC config i am considering is:

-AMD Athlon X2 3800+
-ASUS M2NPV-MX board AM2 based mobo supporting PCI Express and on-board video (GeForce 6150 & nforce 430)
-1 GB DDR2 by transcend (533 Mhz)
-The rest is usual stuff (smps etc.)

Now i know that with On-board graphics of this config(GeForce 6150), obviously a gaming console like Xbox 360/PS3 is going to give better performance.

BUT... what if i add XFX 7600GS to the config? Will that give that "boost" to get it near the console like performance?

Waiting for expert suggestions.

Ok so which graphics card at the minimum can match(or come very close to) Xbox 360, or atleast play all the current games at 1024*768 resolution and some of the future games at decent frame rate.

Random thoughts:

For a video card I would wait for the 7900gs to hit newegg.

The 3800+ X2 is a very powerful chip, but you probaly wont notice any difference from a single core 3800+ when playing games.

The AM2 platform is nice, but not significantly more powerful than socket 939.

What $ you save on DDR2 memory you will pay on an AM2 motherboard.

You can build a system as powerful or better than a 360 for under $700.

Games are generally less $ on the pc, for now.

You cannot type a term paper, surf the web, balance your budget, etc on a 360.

PS3 hits shelves on Nov 18th

More random thoughts may be included later...
