hey my aging wired logitech with no vibration is showing signs of age.

i am wondering if the PC version of the xbox controller is worth it i think it goes for 49.99 which is probly the same as a logitech wireless with vibration

will it work is the appropriate games like NHL / NBA / And the new need for speed that is about to come out ?????

is it worth it ?

I think the non-PC version is a little cheaper and you don't need the PC version anyway. I think the only difference is it comes with a driver CD but you'll want to download the latest driver from MS anyway or use XBCD360.

I've used my 360 controller with various racers, NHL, GTA San Andreas. No problems with any games.

I use a 360 controller with my PC and it works quite well. If the game you want to play has the "Games for Windows" logo on it, then I believe it has to work with the 360 controller. Most of those games will be already setup to use the controller, so no extra setup is required.

I've found it works fine with any game i've throw at it, you just need need to manually setup older titles obviously. Ones without the GFW logo.

Just buy a used wired 360 controller from EBgames or similar. Mine ran me $20 and the drivers are readily available on the microsoft website. OR if you really want a wireless solution. Target had the adapter for $10 last time I was there, and then just by a used controller for $30, still save abit off list price.

I'd recommend against used. The first (new) controller I bought had some issues with the left analog stick not centering properly, but I took it back to Best Buy and swapped it for another one, and it was all good. If you can get a used one from somewhere that has a decent return policy, go for it, but just beware some bad controllers are out there.

I love my wired controller though. Makes playing console ports almost bearable. Almost :p

awesome, i did not know a regular 360 controller can work i kinda want wireless since in the future this PC with be the center of my HT and i will play from the couch and dont know how far away i will sit...a used solution will work for me as well, wow i now have lots of options, thanks guys...but it needs drivers ? thats not a problem, but my usb logitec does not need drivers for some reason, its plug and play and all the games recognize it, i just change around the default button config and its always ready to go

i only want it for the sports and racing games, FPS's are keyboard and mouse all the way!!!

the wireless uses bluetooth or 802.11g or something like that ? and its rechargeble via usb right ? i dont want to waste money on AA batteries lol

If you're going to use it in Vista, it doesn't need drivers IIRC, just on XP.

I don't have any experience with the PS3 controller, but I can pretty much guarantee it won't work as seamlessly as the 360 controller.

I bought an Xbox 360 Wired Controller for my PC to play Grid, and I like it a lot. It is solidly constructed and worked fine once I installed the driver that I easily found with a google search. Make sure you don't get the Wireless controller by mistake though, unless you plan on getting the wireless adapter, which is another $20.

Hmm, IIRC my wired 360 pad automatically installed in WinXP. I tried XBCD360, but it reversed a bunch of stuff and made it unusable. I used it for Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Tomb Ho Anniversary.

I plugged my 360 controller into both XP and Vista and both installed drivers automatically. It even works on Server 2008.

You can do it but it CAN be a pain in the ass and is much easier in WinXP apprently (try this page http://ps3.qj.net/Hands-on-Use...he-PC/pg/49/aid/75550 ). I have it working right now in Vista by just plugging it into a USB port (I had to use a certain version of libusb-win32 because the newest version causes all my USB devices and sound card to stop working). I also just ordered a 360 controller as I'm guessing it's less of a hassle than using the PS3 controller.

The 360 controller is IR. You'll need one of these to run the wireless controller with a PC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16874103054

A new 360 controller will come with two alkaline AAs to get you started, but you have buy any rechargeable battery options in addition.

MS offers two options:

1) Play and Charge Kit $20 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16874103018

2) Quick Charge Kit For Xbox 360 $26.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16874103038

I opted for neither, and just picked up a 4 pack of Eneloop NiMH AA batteries with a charger for $18. http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-En...&qid=1226746737&sr=8-3
