Xbox360 on non HDTV - Technical Help Please

This is not a thread about how great or not great the Xbox360 will be.

What will an Xbox360 look like on a non HDTV? My understanding is that you will sill have increased number of polygons due to the nature of the hardware and game coding, but that the resolution will be greatly compromised. Will there be a huge noticeable difference between an HDTV and non-HDTV?

I was talking to my friend at work, he getting an xbox 360. he was telling me, you wont get the full on detail of games. He got some sport games. With the hdtv, he said you can see them sweat and stuff. but with regular ol tv you cant see them sweat.
 
probably like watching a tv...vs watching hdtv😉 its night and day no matter what. but no console is photoreal yet😛
 
My DirecTV reciever has the option of outputting 480i/p 720p and 1080i. On a standard def set at 480i there is no discernable difference in image quality on the SD vs. HD channels. On a big screen there is a world of difference, you can't even compare the two.
