Xbox360 issues....any suggestions?

hey guys, recently a guy at work gave me a bad xbox360 (i think its an original core unit). The unit turns on, no video, no sound, no red lights. I tried different video connections and power cord at my friends house and same result. So then i tried the towel trick and it powered up and went to the xbox menu. After a reboot, just goes back to normal nothing. Since it doesn't have a RROD or E74 im pretty much beat from microsoft's warranty right? The unit has 8/24/06 date on it. From the towel trick working, do you think its worth doing the self repair?

yeah it was free queasy with a controller and hookups. The only thing i actually need is a hard drive if i get this working. I might do the xclamp repair, its pretty cheap.

Take it apart, and take a heat gun to the bottom part of the board where the GPU and ANA chip are. Do that for like a min..make sure to spread the heat around of course.

i actually left it on overnight with nothing on the screen then did the towel thing 1 more time and got it up and running. Now it comes up everytime...weird! I still bought a xclamp repair kit just in case.
