actually it makes perfect sence to me..
the way PC hardware and software is made is very loose it has to work with many differnet combinations of hardware/software..
so when they write a new DX it has to be universal..
where as when writing for the Xbox hardware they can write a VERY specialized DX version becuase the hardware never changes.. there is 1 hardware config and they are all the same.
makes writing intructions for hardware much much easier.

yeah, Sony is going to milk the new areas of the accessory department now that they can't bank on multitaps or network adaptors. HDD, Controllers, Eyetoys and headsets are what I see.

I can't wait for the new Xbox360. When it comes out, I will dump my dreamcast and buy a $40 xbox system.

So he's saying that a 20gb HD in the XBox is not going to be enough? He also claims that 80gb and 120gb HDD's are not going to be big enough?

I guess this guy didn't understand that the xbox has an 8gb HD by default and that usually has about 5gb free on it most of the time, even after creating save profiles of over 200 games on an xbox.

I would think this guy would atleast know what he's talking about a little better than that...

He's obviously smoking some good stuff. Maybe in his PS3 Super Computer fantasy we all boot into Linux and download terabytes of pr0n into our "Super Computers".

thats the only reason i'm getting a PS3 ... to use as a computer ... you know, since I don't already have one ...

if i wanted to use a computer, i would sit at my computer.

if i wanted to play a console, i would play a console.

if i wanted to use a computer at my TV, i would hook my computer to my TV via DVI or HDMI.

selling PS3 as a "super computer" and not a console is a bad move IMO. and how the hell can you sell it as a super computer, but forget to include the core ingredient w/the computer ... THE FRIGGIN HARD DRIVE!!!

Maybe he is thinking of raw video and audio data (uncompressed) being stored on the hard disk. A lot of the PS3 demo looked at streaming thousands of different videos at once. Just a thought.

Pretty good of ATI to know that, being the RSX has not even been produced yet, or the full specs revealed.

Are you trying to say the "Super Computer" won't be encoding it all into H.264 or MPEG4 in real time? :p

The second page of the article states how ATI plans on making up for the "paper spec" difference though. It's more "counterpoint" to Sony's endless line of marketing hype.

they say it indirectly :)

Here ya go.... XBOX 360 has Graphical Edge Confirmed
or at least for marketing purposes its "confirmed"

But really, only tiime will tell. Once both are manuf. and ppl can do side by side comparisons of exact games then we will see.

You can't bring your hardware to the PC because the software is slightly different? Yet nVidia (IIRC) will be bringing similar hardware to the PC that is used on the insanely difficult 7 processor core?

Maybe someone more technically knowledgable can set me straight, but that smells like a load of BS, that their hardware is dictated by the Dx revision.

You'll probaby see a PC card very similar to the 360 GPU just minus the emedded DRAM. I think that is what they were talking about.

These so called tech sites should STFU until they have the actual consoles in hand for comparison. That's all.

You got to love that logic. He'd rather have nothing than something.

Oh man.... I love these quotes from Sony:

Kutaragi told Impress PC Watch, "We're not going to equip [the PS3 with] a HDD by default, because no matter how much [capacity] we put in it, it won't be enough."

Then he says:
In order to run the OSes, we need an HDD. So in order to declare that the PS3 is a computer, I think we'll have [the PS3's HDD] preinstalled with Linux as a bonus.

Dude, this guy can't make up his fvking mind!
