This is one reason I havn't gone over to the console market. All games, including PC, are expensive when they are released. However, PC games drop in price faster. Take this $60 release price, after an entire year it may drop to what $45? and only if it isn't a top seller. Pretty much any PC game after a year is down to $25 or even less.

You haven't heard of Frys have you? ;)

Given the rampant priacy problems in the game industry. I'm not terribly surprised. Development costs money.

There is no proof that piracy actually costs the gaming industry money. Hell, it's one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

How can it not cost the game industry money? That is absurd.

Gaming is a multi billion $$ a year industry, I remember reading that it rakes in more than movies do per year.
I see little correlation between your statement and DevilAdvocate's. How much money is actually lost to piracy is debatable, but I guarantee you that there is some money lost to piracy. This is so obvious, I don't know how you can even think of debating this.

If you really think everyone downloads game ISO's for "backup purposes", I've got a bridge to sell you. Cheap too.

What would hurt more, piracy or people not buying games because they cost to much?

There's no way to accurately calculate the "revenue lost due to piracy." You could multiply the number of downloads by the cost of the game and get $OMG300BILLION$, but who can say that if the means to pirate didn't exist, that all those people would shell out the cash for it?

I'm sure not everyone would buy the game if piracy wasn't available, but surely several would. To say that NO revenue is lost to piracy is just being naive or stubborn.

As soon as everything is released to the market, the prices will come down to $45-$50 guarenteed.

In 1988 NES games were $40-$60(Zelda). that is $65-$100 adjusted for inflation, so stop whining bitches.

How?

Kids or their parents won't spend as much (supposedly) on games :p

And before you guys call MS a bunch of greedy bastards - this will be either across the board with Sony and Nintendo, or it won't be. Period. Sony and N will either do the same, or they won't, and force MS to reprice it at $50. There's no room for any of them to have a major differential.

Their parents would be less obliging to pay now than before, even with an small price increase. Meanwhile the generally better-behaved adult gamers will still be able to participate.

There will still alwaysd be immature little kids in online games though so I doubt it would make much of a difference.

I thought Xbox 360 had free Xbox Live. Maybe that's how they cover for the Xbox Live cost?
