I've read several reviews of its issues. Heating problems, etc that leads to eventual death.......Only to pay $120+ to send in and get a scratched non-functioning refurb. unit.

Also rumored "insider reports" of 30-50% failure rates doesn't add much confidence.

So what say you all? Is the Xbox360 along far enough in it's manufacturing process where the unit will play for years to come w/out reaking down?........

My current xbox is working fine.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about my previous two.

the ones they are selling for this xmas is now version 1c.

this is the advantage of having a year's lead on your competitors (ps3/Wii).

Because you listen to rumors on the internet about it not being reliable? Every person I know personally who has one hasn't had any problems with theirs.

I wouldn't call the it buggy...at least from a software side...For software, it is actually really great.

Hardware...well most people I know who have them have not had problems with theres. Likely the people who do have problems are very happy to shout it out to all of the internet...while the one's who don't quietly sit at home playing their system.

Regardless...MS has clearly been working to make the system more reliable over the last year...not to mention gaining experience for having made them for well over a year...they are much more likely to put out a reliable product. I certainly would not put the reliability in the way of purchasing one.

Keep in mind those that are having problems will be much more vocal than those who aren't.

Exactly, I haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood) but my buddy's box was scratching his discs for no reason, while sitting horizontally. He was able to get a new one no problem, so if you do have issues, you should be able to get a replacement without too much hassle.

Meh I just bought one for $368 with some lame showerhead to get the special discount on Overstock, I heard the newer models have much more reliable hardware overall and quieter fans.

Pretty much I don't see much on the Computer gaming horizon and I do see Gears of War, Madden 07, Tiger Woods, and Halo 3 (in the future) as being very fun w/ Xbox Live

My launch-day box is working great. No heat issues, and no lockups/freezes except in NFSMW, which I attribute to EA.

Yes, i know you are paying $400 for a system and shouldnt have to be so careful...but keep it and the ginormous brick that comes with it well ventilated. 360 from July still working fine.

My launch 360 works just fine and never once have I seen the red ring of death. You just need to give it room to breathe and all will be good.
