Hadn't used it in quite a while, just to stream videos mostly (hardware-modded years ago). I went to power the thing on and nothing. I see that the plug's red safety button was popped up. I push it down to reset (or whatever it really does) and the LED on it flashes red-green-red-green, then the button pops back up. What's the problem here? I'm not versed in consoles or adapters whatsoever. There's also a small round yellow button on it that did nothing.

That's the safety one that they gave after the recall. The normal one is really just a straight AC plug, so it isn't "adapting" anything. It probably has a fuse or breaker or something in it. The XBOX has a "floating ground" and, thus, no third prong. If there's something wrong with the outlet I would not bypass it with the standard/original cable type (common in other devices) for the same reason it was recalled... safety. Try it somewhere else? Call MS and tell them that you just bought an original XBOX and it still has the recalled cord (I'm sure they don't request the original)?

I have two xbox with those replacement plugs plugged into surge protectors. They both would pop back up everytime. I found that if I press it again at the right time, the button stays down for good and the xbox gets power. But I have to get the timing just right, and it?d be like a half press?if that makes sense. Basically full-press, wait until *just* before it pops back up, and half press it. Usually takes a couple of tries?
