I think they are going to make it more unpredictable in naming.
I think that's Microsoft's ways. Always changing up the game plans. Windows always had some semblance of a naming system, then that changed up, and now they are moving to a pure version number.
With Xbox, I think they plan on keeping the Xbox brand name, much like Sony and PlastStation, but the name 360 came out for two reasons: naming it Xbox 2 when the PS3 was being released soon might turn away the idiots who look at the end number only... so they made it a "3", but at the same time changed up the system from simply naming it like Sony and kind of going the way of Nintendo.
Look at Nintendo: Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, and then to GameCube, and Wii.
They went from basically just pure name, to number, to some strange names.
I'm thinking Microsoft will use the XBOX name, along with some kind of name attached as well. Like the XBOX Blah. I don't expect them to use another number. Naming it the XBOX 3 definitely won't happen, and 720, while it makes perfect sense, is also just kind of ridiculous.
