XBOX won't boot

Hello world,

I have an original xbox that i modded. I installed evox slayer on it, and it worked fine. Recently, i went to turn on my xbox, and the light around the power button flashes different colors and then the xbox just reboots itself continually. I've tried booting of the slayer install disc, as well as several different xbox games, but nothing worked.

Any suggestions on what the problem is? My first thought was the power supply, but since this xbox has barely been used, i doubt something in it blew. My next thought is the hard drive. I was thinking of formatting it, but if i take it out of the xbox, and plug it into my computer, how do i format it and install evox on it, since the evox cd can only be read by an xbox-formatted hard drive? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Upgrade to an XBox 360, I believe it is the winning format :).

Christ... the 360 has no built in HD format so that's a ridiculous claim safeway. I'll bet MS are patting themselves on the back for not integrating HD-DVD into the console and having it be an add-on as it may have really screwed them over about now.

Those are all great suggestions, but how about assuming I'm not upgrading to anything else?

It was obvious before I saw IcebergSlim's post that this was originally posted in Off Topic. What a den of retardation Off Topic is...

I have no suggestions but I must say that I still use my Xbox1 all the time because of XBox Media Center. The 360 and PS3 still can't touch it for ease of use, playing different file formats, on-the-fly good looking slide shows, built-in replay gain, Milkdrop visualizations, etc.

I hope I don't have this problem myself in the future =/.

RaiderJ fixes consoles (so he says in his sig). Maybe he can help.

This post is full of fail.

Safeway, go check out the forums at Xbox-Scene.com. Lots of modding experience there so they may be able to help.

Really? I think it was easy as hell to stream all my music and videos to my 360. All it took was having both on the same router and letting the connection through on my firewall.

I can't seem to browse music on the 360 with folders. It has to organize it by artist, or album, or some other ID field, which I find a pain. I also can't play FLAC on the 360 effortlessly like I can with XBMC (it has to be converted on the fly from the computer). The 360 also seems to send a Dolby Digital signal to my receiver and not a 2.0 PCM signal like XBMC does, so the quality doesn't seem as good. My receiver can't do Pro Logic on Dolby Digital files, so it can't turn the 2.0 signal into a 5.1 matrixed surround sound mix like it can with the 2.0 PCM signal from XBMC. And of course, the 360 has no replaygain and worse visualizations.

Even with the update, I can't play my xvid/divx files effortlessly. I could try to figure it out, but with XBMC, I share the folder on the network and XBMC just plays it no problem. That's not really a deal breaker because I hardly watch those xvid/divx files anyway. But it's nice to have.

I also find the picture sharing mode on the 360 to be lacking. I couldn't zoom into the pictures and I just had less options with making slideshows and that junk.

And finally, the 360 is just plain too loud. And I have a quiet one.

The PS3 has similar problems but does some things worse and some things better.

But this is all off topic. I hope the OP can figure out what's wrong with his xbox.

?

seriously.

to answer the OP's question, maybe the mod chip is loose?

edit: sometimes i had to just smack the xbox on its side to get it to boot properly. haha

I don't know anything about Xbox or 360 hardware specifics...I'd like to learn if I had some spare time and a soldering iron...

I do, however, know about computer hardware. Normally, when a PC boots up to the BIOS, it's going to run through a check of system memory and its peripherals. If you modded your Xbox, I would look at the things you've modded and make sure you don't have any loose connections or anything making contact where it shouldn't. Also check any memory modules and fan connectors... Maybe just go through and unplug everything and plug it back in again... A reboot is simply a sign of hardware failure or firmware failure.

Let me expand on that. The original XBox (XBMC) will play ANYTHING you through at it, with the exception of HD video (hey, a 733MHz processor can only do so much. :)). I also feel XBMC has a MUCH better interface for video and music playback than the PS3 or the 360. I love my XBox, and wouldn't trade it in for anything. And that's coming from someone with a PS3 (60GB) AND 360 Elite.
