xbox wireless controller+PC

I have a friend that would like to use his Xbox wireless controllers to play on PC too. the problem is that I have googled about and seems that an extra receiver is required. Can somebody confirm this?

That is correct. I use one myself, but you need a USB reciever for x360 controllers to make it work.
