Xbox users: Which do you set video to, Widescreen or letterbox?

What's the difference, and which is better for a 27" tube TV?

Normal.

My parents have a 57" widescreen downstairs and I set it to widescreen and it worked as advertised. When I brought it back to my standard 20" in my room, it wasn't using the full screen and was flatter. I had to set it back to the Normal (?) setting. I know it wasn't letterbox... it's the default.
