Xbox the console equivalent of an Intel desktop CPU?

Interesting...I wonder why? I mean, it's the type of thing MS would want to optimize for, considering that the bigger the power supply, the more expensive it is.

meh, its the same as all computers...look how power hungry the fastest pentiums are these days...let alone fast videocards that started to need their own powerplug/huge heatsinks. dudes just being sensationalist to get attention😛

I suppose. But for consoles.. it's one generation. Doubling power use in one generation?

I find it ironic that htis happened in the transition from the 'inefficient' x86 to the 'efficient' PowerPC architecture. 😛

watch it will overheat too
Only if you don't use common sense. The power supply is the power brick which is outside the unit. It has fans in it, and needs room to breathe. Cover the air holes, and yeah, it's going to overheat.

Yeah, but the jump between the power is much more than double. This isn't going from a 9800 to an X800, this is like going from an 8500 to an X1800XT, which I'm guessing draws more than double the power. Also, a hybrid Celeron/PIII, to a triple core PowerPC chip, and then you factor in its using eight times the memory that the original did, and it makes sense.

I'm curious of how large a jump there was in previous console generations. I would expect there to be a pretty hefty jump between the N64 and SNES.

When are we going to see videos of the french guys blowing up the x-box 360 cpu off the motherboard? 😉

eh, it uses about as much power as a intel dualcore chip and motherboard under full load by itself. not that much power. my pc uses much more and it's on for more than 4 hours a day.
