I had a playstation 1 from a few months after launch and it was a real dog. I had to start flipping the thing upside down for it to read game discs.

I just got my Xbox today, it's in great condition.. just a minor scuff mark on the side. The controller it came with seems brand new. The only thing that I don't like is how the Xbox makes humming noise which is quite loud, not sure if that's standard. Anywho, I'm happy. =)

So, the $64000 question is: which controller did it come with? The original, or the smaller type-s?

Type-S. I was concerned about that too even though the picture that Overstock displays cearly shows the Type-S model.

From another post in this thread:

"The controller it came with seems brand new." (Type-S)

As for the version of the Xbox it is 1.1. For those of you still considering getting the Xbox from Overstock.com, it's a great value for a great system. Definately a hot deal.

On a side note; I just got three games I ordered online in the past few days and love playing my Xbox on my brand new 36" Sony Wega! I definately suggest getting premium component cables (I have Monster - 400x series) if your television supports it. I tested the setup with the standard AV cables that came with the Xbox and with the Monster cable and the difference was astonishing.

Also, I got my used games (Blood Omen 2 and Genmu Oshimaru) from Ebworld.com and they came with the orginal cases/manuals with minimum scuffs on the actual games. Another game I ordered online was Project Gotham Racing, from Walmart.com for $13.57 shipped, which received great reviews and is a great game.

Finally, I picked up Blade II from BestBuy B&M (it was an added bonus to the Xbox DVD Kit I was intendng to get) for only $9.99. Some game sites give the game a mediocre review, but the game is fun/challenging and well worth the $10.

Edit: Speling Erers

Good deal. Especially if it comes with the S-Controller.
Only thing I'm concerned about is supposedly the Xbox is dropping to $150 (new) at/around/after E3.

I can't find the thread that had this as a discussion, but it there has been lots of talk and reports about Microsoft not lowering the price in the US, just the UK market.

The two things I couldn't find "good" deals on were Monster Cables and Xbox Live. I got a decent deal on a Monster 400x Xbox Cable through eBai :))) and I'm gonna hold off on Xbox live until I get a chance to mod my system first.

As for deals on games, just search the forums for "Xbox" and you'll find quite a few deals on games. I mentioned a few that I got and where I got them in my previous post.

That sucks, especially since they're shipping these things from Miami (ok, it sucks worse for those of us closer to the West Coast).

Details though?

Is the case cracked or crushed? and it wasn't damaged in shipping? Does it work at all?

To anyone who has received one of these from overstock:

1. Where was it shipped from?
2. Is it "factory refurbished" or does it look like a customer trade-in (a la ebgames or gamestop)?
3. What is the condition on the unit?

I'm interested if it's shipping from an overstock warehouse and whether this is just a dumping of surplus trade-in Xboxes... i.e. it's not really factory refurbished, just quickly tested and boxed (not cleaned up).

Thanks.

1. Miami
2. Refurbished. The screws at the bottom have been messed with
3. OK

I got an older v1.0 unit, dusty and dirty, and refurbished. There were lots of mp3's on the HD, from the last guy. And they forgot my breakaway cable for my controller. No box, manual or anything, but everything seems to work ok so far.

mine is stuck at JACKSONVILLE, FL sonce the past decade......... jeezzz it really takes loooong to reach the west coast.

Apr 18, 2003 9:57 A.M. JACKSONVILLE, FL, US DEPARTURE SCAN

I hope the unit is a REAL refurb and not some crappy trade-ins packed and sent. The deal at Fry's is reallllyyy so tempting with an extar controller, memory card and 3 games for 200 bucks.....

Oh well lets see how the condition is... I am getting it to do all kinds of mods on it....

I got one a couple of weeks back. Sent from Miami it is a v1.1 model with the large controller. The controller was grubby but the unit was perfect and looked like new. It was originally from BestBuy because the rather battered box had BB tape on it. All-in-all I'm very happy with it, especially since it's been modded. ;)

1. Miami, FL. I got the unit about 6 days after I ordered it online
2. Both. Looks like a trade-in that was sent back to the factory for makeover, there were some saved games still on the HD.
3. Bangin'. (Great condition.) Mine came with a manual and breakaway extension for the controller. For those that didn't get it, you may want to contact CS to see if they can do anything about it. I dont recall seeing "as-is" on the product page on their site. The only thing that I would list as a con would be the sound the drive makes when the unit is on. It's not too loud, just noticeable. :( I plan to dwarf that annoyance by purchasing a surround sound system.

Yay to growing debt!

You guys are scaring me; I was much happier thinking about the frigging nearly two weeks that I've been waiting for this damned thing to show up when I thought that it would be in great shape. Now it sounds like half the people are getting crappy ones. Oh well.

Mine finally made it here in Salt Lake this afternoon, which means that I've got to wait until MONDAY (I ordered it on the 16th!) to get it. I should have just ordered one from compgeeks.

One of my friends got one from Overstock after seeing Xbox Media Player on my Xbox (XBMP is AWSOME!!!) and his arrived on Wednesday. Looked like brand new best I could tell-even came in an Xbox box. IIRC it came with the S conntroller also. Fired it up, played some games on it, Thursday we peformed surgery on it :) There wasn't a spec of dust inside-it looked brand new. I will say it was manufactured 5-22-2002, so it's a V 1.0 unit. Anyway, he's happy with it, and had I not just purchased an Xbox myself, I would buy one from Overstock in a second.
