Actually, if people would bother to read the press releases that Sony puts out they'd see that the 66 million number was never claimed to be an ingame number for the PS2. In fact, I believe the number is actually the number of polys one particular part of the system can handle -- the GS or the EE or something, I don't remember which. And the PR's specifically state what effects that is with/without. So don't blame Sony for saying things they never said, blame the news sites that decided to post misinformation.

Xbox will probably have at most 20-30 million with all effects on. This should increase with time.

The GameCube is already pushing 20 million with all effects on, and this will only increase as they (game developers) perfect their skills with the GameCube hardware.

Side by side, a PS2 doesn't look significantly better than a Dreamcast. Granted, I expect the difference will be more dramatic after developers begin to take full advantage of the PS2's architecture, but even so this system is so grossly overhyped it's ridiculous, especially given the mediocre software lineup at launch.

I am no fan of Microsoft's, but it would be nice to see them take a chunk out of Sony this year. I wonder if they might be lowering some of the X-Box's specs in order to make the launch price more attractive to consumers? After all, even with the slight reduction in power, they should still have a relatively generous performance ceiling over the PS2's capabilities.

Dreamcast is the best value this season - with games like Crazy Taxi and NFL2K1, you can't go wrong.

I just hope XBOX is $150 or so next year. I'll buy it then for sure.

I wonder what kind of controller the X-BOX will have? Dreamcast has the most comfortable controllers I've ever held.

The Dreamcast controllers (the ones by Sega) made my fingers feel sore after a while because of the small underside gripping area for fingers not being used. The Madcatz controller feels much more comfortable.

I haven't found too many games that I feel are worth the money on Dreamcast. I'm not sure about the PS2, but the Dreamcast takes a long time to load games too, just as long as my PC, if not longer. I come home from class and want to play a quick racing game, so I turn on the Dreamcast for a game of Metropolis Street Racing, since console gaming to me is supposed to be almost instant fun. But it takes too long just to get into the game THEN to the actual racing part. I might as well just load up Needs For Speed: Porsche Unleashed on my PC if loading games on a console takes so long.

Ok, I've drifted into complaining about loading speed of the Dreamcast I might as well mention how slow and boring I thought the gameplay of Shenmue was. It's like doing everything realtime. Press a button and wait 2-3 minutes for the guy to buy a drink from a soda machine and drink it. Waste a couple of second for an action sequence opening a drawer or door. Imagine how much time you'll have spent on all these little things by the time you beat the game.

I think it is pretty much going to be a Microsoft / Nintendo generation, with Sony messing to many things up (no built hard drive, modem or nic... hard to program for... expensive to program for... not being able to get systems on the shelves, fugly, LOOOOONG load times, no online network, no good games till next year, and not having 4 controller ports). Sony pulled an Atari, Sega, 3DO move.

PC tech gallops so fast. Who wants to be stuck with console tech a couple of years old that can't really be upgraded?
Who wants the expensive games anyway?
Do yourself a favour, wait a year for games to go down to like $10 heheh... only happens on the PC though.

yeah, the germans had some nice guns in world war 2. problem was, they has so many parts they were easy to break. american guns had an order of magnitude less parts, and could be fixed. bleh. anyway. but my money is on nintendo. they'll make money as long as they have pikachu, and with the return of metroid and other &quot;adult&quot; games they should get respect from the reviewers.

I hated the DC controllers. After playing an hour of them at my friends house, my hands were sore. I'll take a PS1 or PS2 controller anyday. I just hope the XBox controller is more like the Microsoft Sidewinders, those are comfortable.
