Xbox slow downs?

Have you ever noticed any games that begin to chug along after the details like explosions or multiple characters are onscreen?

I was playing Halo last night in the last mission, the Maw, where you get in your Warthog to escape close to the end and the screen almost froze completely for like a second or two, then it slowly caught up to full speed again after explosions subsided.

Just upgrade the CPU from a 700 to a 1.2GHz.

Oh wait, you can't do that. Oh well. ;)

Seriously, I've read of others mention that problem. Just a bad port, at least in that part.

Yes, when playing 12-player Crazy King on Wizard, 10-player Rockets on Battle Creek, and 16-player Slayer Pro on Hang 'Em High.

Good to know, I just didn't expect that of the Xbox cause I didn't expect that with such a powerful console (as compared to anything else out there for consoles).

Yup, experienced some slow down like you mentioned.

Played it through a few times - sometimes it slowed, sometimes didn't - didn't always seem to slow in same places. Was playable though, unlike my 5 Disk DVD Special Edition set of LOTR (The National Geographic DVD plays - the rest aren't recognized).

What??? I have that Special Edition set unopened so I haven't played it yet but everything else works fine so far. Hmmm I wonder if there are other movies that it can't play. I know the PS2 was frought with problematic unplayable dvds (my friend bought Xfiles season 2 and it wouldn't play at all so he bought a dvd-rom).

I don't know about that I have a PS2 and Gamecube & my friend let me borrow thier Xbox for a month while he was on a business trip. With the PS2 & Xbox some of the games I played did slow down during intense screens, but with the GC it has yet to slowdown during gameplay even during intense 4 player games of Super Monkey Ball or Mario Party 4

lmao, SMB and MP4 aren't processor intensive. Try Metroid Prime and watch all the particle effects slow your GC down. When I had a GC, Rogue Squadron would slow down in a couple spots with "intense" action.

Halo is a first run title so when there's a lot of action going on, yes it does slow down some

Happens a lot in World Series Baseball on XBOX when you foul a ball off hard into the crowd. But it's not very noticeable... fractions of a second, not 1 or 2.

The XBox hardware is crap. I bought one two weeks ago and it broke within hours of setup. The replacement had a bad controller. I'm on my 3rd unit in less then 2 weeks.

Yup. has something to do with the center of the disk being clear or somesuch. XBOX tech support doesn't have an answer - though they'll gladly send a return box for it. The disks play fine on my puter and I figure I'll get a stand alone DVD anyway - but I'm out the $30.00 for the DVD controller being that the XBOX sucks w/DVD's. The one's it does play, intermittently locks up. And I'm on my second box.

Yeah I've noticed slowdowns with lots of action in Halo as well as Mario Sunshine sometimes if I do the water stuff just right. Not super slow like 2fps, but under 24. Happens I guess :(

I personally think it's nearly inexcusable to have slowdown in a console. That's part of the deal, that the machine is standard and fast enough to run the games made for it. Pathetic when games slow down. Either fix it or scale stuff back.

Dude, every gaming platform experiences slowdown. I'd rather have a game that "drags" in a couple of spots than one that is lacklust, but always hits 60FPS.

Some people get all the bad luck. (I've had an almost similar experience with WD hard drives - the reason why I refuse to purchase them now) That sucks, but hopefully the 3rd one is a charm :)

Weird.. I bought a used Xbox from the first week of production and it hasn't given me any grief for any DVD yet *knock on wood* but I haven't tried all my dvds in it.

I just wish the controllers didn't cost so much cause I want a controller s.
