im in the middle of a trade for an xbox...just wondering if it matters when it was built or if it was modded?

also why do people mod xboxs?

 
Versions 1.0 and 1.1 have a fan on the cpu, others have a larger heatsink. Version 1.1 and above have better chances of having a better dvd player, namely the samsung one.

Mods, depending on the one will let you put in a new hard drive, copy games to your new hard drive, play divx movies, stream from your computer, run linex and some more.
