I bought an xbox and would like to hook it up through my onkyo 575x. I "had" a stand alone dvd player hooked up to the onkyo but it died on me last weekend. SHould I just plug the game console into the DVD input on the back of the 575x?

HAs anyone hooked it up to their receivers yet? Just wondering what kind of adapters (if you bought one of the advanced av cables or whatever?) you used?

I don't have either system, but you shouldn't have any trouble with doing that... A standard A\V jack will work just fine...

You should be fine doing that. That's what I've done with all of my past systems and it worked good. So how do you like the XBox so far?

de8212,

I'm not familiar with the Onkyo 575x, but you would want to hook it up to the best type of connection that is available on your receiver and of course your TV.

So if your receiver and TV support S-Video, hook it up through S-Video (You must purchase the Advanced A/V Pack for $19.99) ...

If your receiver and TV support Component Video then you want to hook it up through that and purchase the High Definition A/V Pack for $19.99.

If its audio you're looking to connect you'll need to purchase either one of the above A/V packs and also purchase a standard Optical SP/DIF cable which connects to the breakout box of the A/V pack and then to your receiver to get Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS (for movies).

Personally this is the way I have my X-Box connected:

X-Box using the Advanced A/V Pack to my S-Video splitter box ($19.99 made by Interact), Splitter box to my TV
Advanced A/V Pack using SP/DIF Optical cable to my receiver's SP/DIF in

<< So how do you like the XBox so far? >>

To start off with, I am not really much of a gamer. I picked it up Thursday (pre-order) and took it home. My g/f's brother played it for a couple of hours (Halo) and I played it for about 5 minutes. I didn't mess with it again until last night. Started a new mission/campaign and only played about 30 minutes. Didn't get far at all. I can do keyboard and mouse on PC pretty good but I am not too good with gamepad. I guess I just need alot of practice.
ANyway, the graphics in Halo look pretty good to me. But I honestly thought they would be a bit better. The actual gameplay was impressive.
So that's my impressions so far.

Back on topic.
Here's a link to my receiver. I know my receiver has S video inputs (maybe outputs???). I'm at work now so I guess I'll have to wait until I get home to figure out the audio/video hookups.'
Thanks for the help.

with that receiver, you are gonna want to get the Advanced A/V pack, which will allow you to hook up the S-video to your receiver and the optical digital output to your receiver, then send the video to your TV from the Onkyo.
