Xbox question

Well I know the new versions don?t allow you to softmod it because they have a newer version of the xbox dashboard installed.

I also remember reading about a recall that xbox had on the power cable so perhaps the newest version has fixed that issue as well.

they have different connections internally and newer hardware. the 1.0 and 1.1 have "daughterboards" for the controllers while 1.2-1.6b do not. also, the earlier drives have a very crappy DVD drive. the video chips also changed as the versions progressed. my 1.5 boots up about 3 seconds faster than a 1.0-1.2.

the 1.0 and 1.1 use a different power supply connector and i think the ram is also slower. the differences arent huge, but there are definitely a few.

thanks! Both of you gave me much more info than I previously had. Guess the answer is simple.....1.6 is the winner.

The only thing (in my eyes) different about the 1.6 is it's more of a pain in the ass to install a modchip. You have to do a "rebuild" of the LPC port on the motherboard which involves soldering a few wires on the underside and installing a pin header onto which you drop your chip. Check out www.xbox-scene.com for more information.

Yea I forgot about the better dvd drive in the newer models, I have a friend that says it makes for a pretty big improvement if your discs are scratched a lil.

The best ones aer 1.2-1.3 IMHO... Most of them have the 10Gb drives, the LPC holes aren't filled, no daughterboard to deal with, and thats when they started using Samsung DVD drives.
