Xbox question: S-video or Component?

Just got my Xbox and am wondering if I should go the cheaper route of getting the Advanced AV pack (w/S-video out) or go the more expensive route of getting the High Definition pack + component cable.

Buy.com has the HD pack + cable for $37 shipped

Walmart has the Advanced AV pack for $20 + tax

Difference in price would be about $15. Should I spend the $15 for the better quality?

BTW!! The Xbox will go on a 20" Advent TV w/component input. I know the difference between s-video and component aren't great, but is it worth the extra $15?

On a 20" TV, I would say no. Course, if you ever plan on upgrading (Which I'm sure you do) then yes, it would be worth it.

Good advice. Also, your local Gamestop or EB Games may have one used at a discount. I bought my Advanced AV pack used at Gamestop.

I agree that the difference between S-Video and Component on a 20" TV is nominal. I can't tell the difference on my 27" unless looked up close.

Just curious (I'm thinking of getting an XBox), do the Advanced and HD packs have the same S/PDIF connectors?

If you have the components available, use them.

If you don't get the advanced pack now, you will want it later (when you have a TV that you WILL notice the difference on).

I use component on my 27" Wega, if nothing else it frees up the s-video ports for other things (game consoles).

you should see better color with component.

Even though the tv is 20" I'd say use the best possible connection you have available.
