I have an original xbox (launch date) and I honestly don't know if I'm going to get a new one. Sending it back to Microsoft would probably take a long time.

Um, since when do you send it back?

Affected customers can request a new power cord free of charge via the Web site, Xbox.com (http:/www.xbox.com), or by calling toll-free numbers in their respective countries.

Microsoft said customers would get replacement cords within 2-4 weeks from the time of order, and in the interim it advised users to turn off their Xboxes when not in use.

And who the F leaves their XBox on 24/7 like a computer? *scratches head*

Doesn't look like you'll have to send the old one back.

Oh good. I didn't read it carefully, I just assumed they would want verification that you had an old one or something. My bad.

You don't have to send the old one back. I have an Xbox from Jan 02. The process was very easy.

I wonder if it has something to do with how its loose going into the powersupplies. I've had to resolder a few powersupplies cause of that. It will launch sparks pretty good also when that happens.

You could've taken the 2 secs to check what the website wanted... ;) just a serial # and manufacture date.

They really should use an alternate word besides recall...

funny because my xbox power supply actually did get fried ...

i was playing and smelled a wierd smell. it was coming from my xbox. then suddenly my xbox cut off. after jiggling the power supply around for a while, it worked again. this went on for about 2 weeks getting worse and worse, and i started to hear little "pops" like if something was sparking inside my xbox. it then cut off for its final time.

i opened my xbox ,and the power supply was fried and had melted some of the plastic inside my xbox. i ordered a new one off ebay for $20 and haven't had probs since. i think i'll be getting a new cord though since its free :)

Well that's not what it was designed for, was it. You mod it, then that's your problem.

We fail to see your point. RagingBITCH asked a question. Doug3737 answered his question.

My friend didn't mod his, he just leaves it on for long periods of time. You don't have to mod it to get the the cable to fry.

I dunno, I've thrown Linux on mine and turned it off after I was done usingit. I guess I still consider it solely a video gaming console as opposed to a mini PC.
