XBox or Gamecube?

I was all set on a GC, partly because of it's price, and also the fact that it's games are exclusives (Xbox "hits" like Halo are set for PC, possibly...) whereas GC games are only on GC (Metroid, F-Zero, Soul Calibur 2 (eventually)).
But, I could get a special edition GC (GC, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime name plate for the Cube), or an XBox with nothing except the console.
Both are the same price (near as makes no difference), and both are over 15% cheaper than PS2, I just don't know which to get, and I was really set on a Cube.
I do have an OK spec PC that should play most XBox ports than happen.

Any advice?

(I don't have all that much money generally, and GC games are cheaper than XBox games, and I already have a stand alone DVD player so I don't need XBox for that)

The games. Look at the games for each system, and buy the one that has the most games you want.

If you want a console that has good games, looks good, and performs great then get an XBox. If you want something to go with your furniture, get a GC.

Still waiting for either system to come around. They both have about the same share of good games. Nintendo has more polish but Xbox has better hardware.

Wait until May, more specifically, until after E3 - they have rumors circulating that the GC will drop its price to $100 and the other two to $150! :D:D:D

Forgot to mention - the reason why you shoudl wait until E3 is that they are supposed to annoiunce it there . . . just a few more weeks (it'd be infuriating if I saw a price drop of $50 a few weeks after I got something . . ..)

If you want something that IS furniture, get an xbox :) That thing's huge.

<--owns all 3 consoles

You advocate buying an X-box based on looks, then insult the gamecube for matching your furniture? Do you have blue furniture?

I think you have your consoles backward.

Well, all I know is that I'm planning on getting a GC because at $100, it's hella cheap, not to mention Zelda and Metroid . . ..

Soul Calibur II is not GC-exclusive, altho each platform version will have one exclusive character.

Gamecube for $100 is very compelling, especially if it still includes a free game! However, there are too many things I personally don't like about the GC (controller, kiddie slant to titles, over-reliance on 1st-party titles) that it still wouldn't be a "slam dunk" purchase for me.

Not necessarily true. Many crappy GC games may be cheaper, but anybody who pays full price for games for *ANY* platform is a sucker, IMHO. Check out the Gamecube and Xbox BIG LISTs over in Hot Deals. 99% of the games for Xbox that I own I have paid less than $15 for...and all of them good titles (not dreck like Kabuki Warriors).

If you want to enjoy the wonderful goodness that is Live, then Xbox would be the way to go.

If you like sports games, Gamecube is prolly not a good choice since 3rd party sports game developers have been withdrawing support for Gamecube.

If you have small kids, Gamecube is prolly a better way to go.

And no matter which way you go, wait until after E3, because the possibility of price cuts is looming large.

This is a good question...

How good are the RPGS on all three consoles Pipboy? I loved final fantasy VII...

I also enjoy a good beat'emup like dead or alive 3 on the xbox or bushido on the PS1. Anything that can compete with that on the PS2 or Gamecube?

Oh, and what's the name of that awesome japanese sword fighting game on the PS2??

I love my GC. I got it and tried trading it on here for a XBOX, but I'm glad I kept it. ATV QUad Power Racing 2 kicks butt, as does Metroid and Zelda. Can't wait for Mario Cart! :D

Wish I could help you but I don't play RPGs on consoles and I don't play fighting games at all ;)

What do you play Pip? Racing? Those are awesome too :)

I very much enjoyed Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo on the PS1. Old school huh? hehe Any decent racing gaming to be had on any of these consoles? IMO racing and fighting are about all consoles can do better than pcs. Please, no flames, it's just my personal opinion to give a better idea of what i'm looking for in a console.

Not into sports...so, um, what else is there? Mario and inane "action" games? ;)

I'd still like to know what japanese style fighting game that is on the PS2...similar to Bushido on PS1. Anyone have an idea?

Get the XBOX if you will mod it, throw in a larger hdd, and use it as a media player. That's the only thing I use mine for now. Get a Gamecube for fun factor.

My only worry with the gamecube is the maturity lvl of the games. Granted, consoles in general are aimed at gamers with a certain, shall we say, simplified view of gaming, but it seems to be that the gamecube is more so...are there any games for the GC that are closer to complex?

Simplified view of gaming? If you want strategy games get them for your PC :p

That said, I don't quite know what you mean by saying simplified perspective of gaming.

i think the only reason to go with xbox over gc is for sports/racing games, as this is the middle market not covered by either the gc or pc.

if you like that genre more than any other, then i would suggest an xbox.

if like me you own a pc and aren't into sport/racing games big time then go for a gamecube, it has higher quality games imo.
i admit it doesn't have as many B grade titles as xbox, but if you have a life/job you shouldn't need more than 3 games at one time. :p

hope that helps

GC--Zelda, Metroid, Eternal Darkness (OMG awesome game!!!), Star Wars, Animal Crossing (owned for 2 weeks but never played ;))
Xbox--Unreal, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Mech Assault, Halo.
PS2--High Heat 2004, GTA, GT3, Metal Gear Solid, some others but I forget because I never play PS2 anymore.
