I've always been a PC gamer fan and have been wanting to order a new system for college next fall, but I'm reading and seeing all these awesome games for Xbox and now with the price drop... plus I seen a lot of good games for only $20. Maybe cause the two free magazine subs I have are for videogame magazines (EGW and GamePro, GP covers some PC but hardly any) and that sways my opinion, but the primary reason I would be ordering a new computer would be for gaming. If I don't order a new one, I'd likely be using this current one which is getting too slow for the latest games (and even semi-old games). Xbox live sounds really kickass too, cause I've been a PC fan for the online play. And finally, the mods you can do the Xbox tops it off. Soo... what would you guys go with?

Also, any good websites or game recommendations so I can see what kinda games and how much I'd have to spend on the xbox. Also, any guides about modding it (adding hdd, etc..)?

College ? PC. And it also allows free updates to games instead of requiring an XBL subscription.

www.xbox-scene.com is the best source for all xbox modding stuff.

i have both, and I think it depends. I usually have a lot of friends over so the xbox is really handy. Halo, sports games, etc. I think if you like sports games or racing games, it's the xbox hands down. If you like RTS, FPS, then get a PC. If you like all of them, then learn to choose!

Depends on if you are attached to the mouse/keyboard?

For me, I like playing with a mouse and keyboard alot more.

I do have an xbox though, and use it mainly because of the mods I have done to it. If I hadnt had modded it, it would just be collecting dust. I love being able to stream my movies, music, and pictures from my computer to the tv. Also being able to stream tv from places like France and Brazil is pretty cool. And finally, being able to back up my games on the new hard drive I put in, so I dont have to mess with the disks.

It depends. It would take you a lot of money to buy a "fast" PC to play the latest games with all the ooh-ahhhs turn on. The XBOX is much cheaper. With all the cool games for the Xbox currently available, I'm considering of buying one . Games such as Halo 2 and Jade Empire have me wanting for an xbox. If the you need a pc to do college work, you old pc should still be fine.

Well it's really hard to compare since the xbox is much cheaper than a brand new PC that you can label "fast". Right now isn't the basic xbox package priced taht 150? Thats not even a 9800pro.

I've gotten way more gaming enjoyment out of my Xbox, over the last year or two. It's not even close.

I don't know what your budget might be... But how about building a PC, and shaving ~$200 (Xbox and a couple games) off your total price. This way, you'd have options in both worlds. :)

PC. Of course, I'm a rabid console-hater, so I don't know how much my opinion is worth.

That being said, in my opinion, there isn't a single game on the XBOX or PS2 that satisfies both conditions below:

1) Can't be played on the PC
2) Interests me enough so that I'd spend more than $10 on it (including hardware).

The GameCube is a different story, but I'm a devoted Nintendo fanboy, so there's that whole "worth of my opinion" issue again...

Agreed. Why dont you just get a job (or work a little more on the side) and buy both?

PC

there's so many reasons. i personally had xbox... sold it. got a 9700pro video card, and have been entertained by FREE Americas Army infinitely more than playing crappy shooters w/ crappy controls w/ crappy multiplayer w/ crappy graphics on xbox.

I'm having more fun with this modded XBOX than I've had with a PC in years.

Don't just get an XBOX and leave it as is. Throw a mod chip and HD on there and play every game ever made from your XBOX (except for DC, GC, and PS2). Hell, you can even throw old PC games like Monkey Island, Pool of Radiance, etc. on there.

This is a very very stupid question..... what you should be asking is, should I get a new PC with a nice DVD burner, or a new PC and an Xbox..

Xbox- $150
PC new good at games- $700-1000

The best economical decision would be, get an XBox for $150 and then take your old PC to do your work. MUCH better than spend $1000-2000 for a nice gaming rig. I mean dude, you are going to college, you can spend that money on MUCH better things than PC gaming. I'm telling you, it would be nice to have that extra cash. And the XBox kicks ass too, so your gaming fix should be taken care of. ;)
