I tried searching for an appropriate thread to bump and add this in but I came up empty.

The wireless adapter for Xbox One controllers on Windows is available. I ordered one off Amazon and it will arrive sunday according to them (I'm betting it'll be here monday though). Just thought others would be interested to know they are out there. No more wires.

Hm, thanks for the heads up. I decided to give it a try and see how well it works. I was a bit baffled the other day when I tried to play Geometry Wars 3 on my Gaming HTPC. It absolutely refused to use the controller and would only interact with the keyboard. I tried Towerfall, and it kept assigning my controller to Player 2, so I don't know if there's some weird issue with the 360 wireless adapter. I'll give this one a shot to see if it works better.

For those interested, keep in mind the wireless adapter only works with Windows 10. A very stupid decision by Microsoft.

Wonder how long it will take before knockoff adapters are available that work on Win7/8/8.1?

 ... looks like it'll be sitting in a drawer for a while then!

Didn't know that, but I like Windows 10 anyway.

The Xbox One and its controllers use the newer Wi Fi Direct standard, that may be why the XB1 controller wasn't playing nice with the 360 wireless adapter.

It would be nice if it worked with the Xbox 360 controller. Or worked with the PS4 controller. The Xbox One controller has that annoying whine due the hardware used to communicate with Kinect.

WTF no Windows 7 compatibility. Jesus MS is stupid these days trying to force everyone to play nice with them.

Yeah! How dare they force everyone who got a free upgrade to Windows 10 to have to use it to continue to use new peripherals they make!

Windows 7 isn't even the previous version of Windows. Get over yourself.

I want to know if they now have vibration working. I care less about headsets, but I guess they should get that working as well.

What? I have never heard of that. The only stuff that interacts with Kinect is the infrared sensor on the front. There is no noise.

It worked fine before in my experience.

I have four Xbox One Controllers, two older gen controllers from my Xbox One and two I bought separately for HTPCs and my personal PC which are of the newer generation. They ALL make the same noise, which is an annoying high pitched whine when they are on. The PS4 controller is completely silent. Although it's also possible I'm just sensitive to high frequency noise. I have friends that tell me they only hear it when they put their ear to the controller--problem is I can hear from the regular holding distance.

High frequency sensitivity varies by individual and is lost with age. I can still hear 21 KHz test tones; used to hear up to 23KHz. It's a pain.

I got one of these and was pretty disappointed to learn that it only worked with Windows 10. I have an Alienware Alpha that I use primarily as an HTPC but also for light gaming on my projector.

That machine is still on 8.1 since MS decided Windows Media Center wasn't worth their time anymore :( Doesn't look like the adapter will be getting as much use as I thought.

The whine has to be something other than "the part that communicates with Kinect", because the XB1 controllers do not communicate with Kinect.

Oh they do. When you turn them on they have an infrared sensor that sends a signal to the Kinect and syncs. The Kinect can tell who is using the controller by facial recognition.

...and if some of us have issues with using the new OS, then we should just suffer because Microsoft refuses to issues drivers for an OS that's still widely used? This is Halo 2 levels of BS all over again.

Oh. Nevermind, then.

Does anyone know what's going on with the bundled version? It sounds like MS may be shipping the old version of the XB1 controller with it.

Old version? You mean the one without the 3.5mm port and updated bumpers?

No, you will sync it to the PC adapter. It will not be synced to your xbox.
