XBox One S problems with streaming

HumblePie

Lifer
So I've owned an XBox One S, mine craft white edition, since Black Friday. I've used it on and off for the most part with no major problems except when it comes to streaming applications.

I can play games with no problems. Anything and everything has worked for hours on end.

Some streaming software, like Twitch, runs with no problems either. On the other hand, other streaming software just crashes the whole console. Netflix I can't even open. Soon as it tries to open it crashes the entire console. Amazon video I can open, but as soon as I try to run any video the console crashes.

I have searched for various solutions, but none of them has worked. I uninstalled, and reinstalled everything. I cleared the persistent cache, and changed various settings. Nothing works to get those streaming services up and running. Anyone here have any ideas?

Have you tried resetting console to factory settings / formatting? Could be a PITA but if you don't have too many things installed, might not be too bad.

Yah I did that. I only have a couple of games and a couple of apps on it. Still crashes the Xbox every time. Was thinking I might have to send it back. Pain in the backside so far.

So as an update I got a new HDMI cord, power cord, and hooked up the xbox to a different TV. With all those it no longer crashes and runs perfectly fine. So now I need to figure out what the problem actually is. It is either the hdmi cord, power cord, or possibly the tv even. For reference I ordered the monoprice premium 18gbps 2.0a hdmi cable

I had several other matching power cords besides the one that came with my unit so just picked one of those and tried it.

This is a good thing as it means my unit isn't defective at least, but something else was. Still it's a massive PITA to go through this issue with a "console" that is suppose to be an easy plug and play setup.

I'd suspect the TV, though having spare certified (not expensive, just good) HDMI isn't bad either. Streaming commercial media often requires HDCP. On a PS4 if you turn HDCP off the setting, if you start Netflix, Hulu, it will tell you it can't run. Check to see if a firmware update is available or even try another HDMI port. No all ports on my 2016 TV are for the newest version of HDCP. It probably wouldn't even hurt to see if the TV does support newer HDCP.

It's a 65" RCA 4K display. The last one they made and put on sale about a year ago at Fry's.

All ports are suppose to be HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 compliant. But I guess it could be an issue.

Try disabling 4k support on Xbox 1s before you play a stream. There are also a myriad of choices, basically want to get it working at 1080p YUV 4:2:0 which is one of the more basic settings. By the way, a family member got a similar sized non-4k RCA. They love it, especially at the blowout price they got it.
