Xbox One elite controller

I got one of these Monday night. It's a bit heftier than the normal controller, but it feels better. The grips are rubberized and textured in a way that doesn't slide around (not that I had that problem with the standard one). It's hard to describe, but it just feels right holding it. The flippers on the bottom of it, which replace the buttons on top, I'm really undecided on. They might work great for some of the fighter games where you can't move your finger from the sticks to the buttons that fast. I personally found them a bit in the way. I'm sure it's just getting adjusted to them, but I found myself hitting one of them causing Lara (playing Tomb Raider) to jump at the wrong times. They can be removed however, so it's not like you're forced to keep them. I do like the bowl shaped "D" pad better than the cross. I haven't played with adjusting the sensitivity on it. I'm told it makes a difference from a buddy of mine. I think it'll be one of those YMMV things.

All in all, it's a def upgrade from the standard controller. I don't know if it's worth the $150 price tag for it. I'm sure there are some heavy gamers out there (even more so for the fighting game ones) that will get more use out of it than I will.

I considered buying it but I'm definitely not the target audience. I won't do better with the extra buttons or sensitivity adjustments.

Did not consider disabled gamers. Good point he made. No way to set it down with the wing buttons attached seems annoying though. The biggest thing like he said is the price. With some deals it is almost half the cost of the console. That is a lot to ask someone to pay. I would love to hold one in my hands and feel it because I might grow to like it quite a bit but I am not willing to take a $150 chance on that. I do hope Microsoft comes out with an app/program for Windows to adjust the settings like you can through the xb1. That would be great as well.

Agreed, the price is rough. I considered it for about a minute, then I realized I could get BOTH the Chief and Locke controllers for $10 less, if I wanted. Got the Chief controller, I like it. My only complaint is the new bumpers are kind of soft, meaning it's kind of easy to accidentally Pres them.

I like the new bumpers but yeah they feel loose or as you said, soft. I have two of the Lunar White controllers with the rubber backing. I wanted the extra grip.

as someone who has spent $200 on a joystick, $150 for this seems retarded expensive

Turns out the demand was higher than the supply. Every one has sold and you can't find one. Gamestop, Walmart, target, Best Buy and the Microsoft store are sold out. Gamestop said they only got enough for pre-orders. If a store got one pre-order that's all they received. Phil Spencer says they expect more to be available in mid November. They didn't expect the demand to be as high as it was, they designed it as a niche product but the demand was more than anticipated.

I don't think it's that. Look at all the controllers on eBay for $250+. It seems like a lot of people bought it to resell

Alternatively they have a bundle for $180 that comes with the elite controller and a charging station releasing on November 8th or 9th and if anyone buys the elite console they get an elite controller with a 1TB hybrid drive.

What are the alternatives if you want a controller of this caliber and don't want to pay $150?
If they are none, then I don't see why it's so unreasonable to think that people wouldn't buy this controller at $150. If I get an Xbox One, I'd definitely pick this controller up no question.

Well there are modded controllers I think but I haven't looked into it.

Honestly for someone right now without an Xbox one but wants this controller the best deal IMO is the elite console that comes with the 1TB hybrid drive and elite controller. The controller is sold out except for gamestop's forced bundle with the charging dock and overpriced resellers.

Yeah, I guess if that's your #1 want for the console, that's the best bundle. To me, I'd rather get the painted Halo or Forza console, where you get a game (LE in Halo 5's case), along with a better-looking console. I can add a $150 controller to my collection on-sale better than I can swap a black console for a painted one down the line, but like you said, it's about preferences and priorities.

Also, next week, you get a $50 gift card with Xbox One purchase. On top of that, if you wait until next weekend, you also get a free game with console purchase. So, I'm going to dump my 500-GB console next week (not sure if I'll do it tomorrow and try for a late-week price adjustment for the free game, or at the end of the week and get both freebies at once), and I'll get the Halo 5 console, the $50 gift card, and maybe Black Ops 3 or trade in Forza and get it back for free or something.

This.

Also, the rubberization is also on the Lunar White controller, and I believe the Halo Guardian controller as well.

The Halo 5 controllers are just like the regular updated ones, but with a paint job. No hand grip rubberization.

I found a buyer for my white XB1 today and went ahead and pre-ordered the elite console which comes out on Tuesday. Paid only $100 out of pocket once I applied some extra credit I had left over. I didn't want any of the other bundles and I already own halo 5(yet to play it lol). I figure if I don't like the controller I could sell it but I did kind of want to try it out. They told me they will match the free game deal for me on Tuesday when I pick it up so I get to pick another game too.

I own Halo 5 as well. Got it for $52 (after tax) at Best Buy. Going to trade it in for $43 next week, get the digital copy, and be able to share the game with my brother-in-law, so I'll have another person to play with.

Also, who said what free game deal's getting matched? Best Buy has one, but it's next Friday-Sunday. Someone said his store would honor a price adjustment he bought at the end of this week. I considered attempting that, but I also might just wait until Friday so I don't have to fight about the price adjustment with customer service.

After playing with it for the past few days on a few different games I have to say that I like it. I'm still not saying it's worth the $150 they want for it, but I really do like the way it feels. I think it's one of those things that if you've they money for it then it's not the worst thing you could spend it on. I'm still undetermined on the paddles on it as I feel like I'm learning a whole new console after 1x+ years of using the standard layout, but there are times they were nice. I do still find myself on autopilot mostly and using the buttons. All in all, I really just like the way it feels most of all.

They are matching walmart's free game deal since they are next door to a Walmart. However I am personal friends with the manager so I think I am getting something he can't offer to everyone. I dunno what he is gonna do in the computer.

This dude pretty much sums it up IMO....

Seems like he's missing the reason it's $150. Construction is essentially metal where regular controllers are all plastic, higher quality parts, interchangeable parts, carrying case (for those who travel to competitions), plus all the additional engineering to fit in paddles, magnets, and hair-trigger locks.

Yes, it's a lot of money for a single controller but I think it's priced fairly.

I would love to have one but can't justify the price personally, I'm not a pro gamer and won't really get any real gain from a controller like this.

I got one with my elite console today and I must say it feels like a step above all other controllers I've held. It has more weight which gives it a bit of a sturdier feel. The paddles are easy to hit and not so light as to press them by mistake. They are placed perfectly where your ring finger and middle finger naturally rest. They really got the feel right. The sticks feel the same but the metal around the stem is a nice touch. It won't wear out as quickly. The dish shaped dpad is a big improvement for me. It makes certain movements much easier. I think I'll get a lot of use out of the trigger locks for games like Halo and Battlefield. The plastic piece at the top with the infrared port for the kinect is replaced by a metal plate which looks more high tech to me, but you won't be able to interact with kinect using it. The battery door has a soft touch feel to it, and there's a pad to keep the batteries from shaking around. Little touches go a long way to make it look and feel like a premium product.

Microsoft did a good job on this one if you ask me and by feel alone, the Xbox One Elite controller is better than the PS4 controller and I absolutely love the PS4 controller. The elite controller is simply a step above everything else.

So is there a way to sit the controller down without some input being acted upon? Is there a cradle, an off button, etc.?

The paddles do not hit if you set it down on a flat surface. I checked that myself. I don't know what people are talking about when they say the paddle buttons get activated, there is plenty of room between a table and the controller.

I lost the use of my left arm in a motorcycle accident years ago. I'm super excited about this thing. That said, I'm not paying $150 for a controller that should cost $75-90.

Those with the controller... could you hold it with one hand and not accidentally hit the new bottom buttons?

i always find it funny when people think they know what things "should" cost.

(and i do agree that i'd never pay $150 for it, but then again i haven't played fps in years. and again, this coming from someone who gladly shelled out $200 for an arcade stick at x1 launch)
