Question Xbox One Controller Battery Corrosion

TLDR: Batteries in controller leaked and now I can only use controller wired.

I almost always use my xbox controller wired to my PC, but I have batteries in there in case I want to get crazy and do a wireless gaming session. I just opened the battery compartment and realized that the batteries leaked a bit. The batteries were barely used and had only been in the controller for a few months. I tried to clean the contacts, but it still only works wired.

Is this a common occurrence with xbox one controllers, or did I get unlucky with the batteries? It's well out of warranty; would it be worthwhile to open the controller up and try a repair job?

Go to your local TV/electronics repair person and they will be able to clean the contacts (and/or watch some youtube videos) , if they are really that corroded that you can't clean them they will be able to replace them.

Also buying high quality rechargeable batteries reduces the danger of leaking immensely.

That happened a lot with my TV remotes when I used alkaline batteries. I've never had a problem after cleaning them with 70%+ isopropyl and qtips/cotton swabs. Switching to nimhs stopped that from happening. Running it wired most of the time might have allowed the corrosion to advance further before it was noticed however.
