Xbox One Controller Analog Stick Issue

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I've got one of the original black controllers and the right stick has started having problems. If I rotate the stick, it gets around 7-9 o'clock and hits multiple snags. It feels like it's been dropped or stepped on and the analog motion is cracked or jagged inside.

Searching for a solution, I've only found articles about stickiness (plastic binding) problems in the movement. This seems to be a actual cracked or broken plastic piece....I've just not taken it apart to diagnose it yet.

Is there a way to replace the entire stick for cheap or is it better to drop another $40. If so, can you even get Microsoft parts? It's just been lightly used....I have 2 young kids though. My guess is they dropped it off an end table or stepped on it.

i think there are rebuild kits littered all over the web... try amazon first. even game stop might have replacement joysticks. the controllers aren't too bad to take apart but they can be tricky to reassemble without the buttons going all over the place. if the stick actuator needs to be replaced you can find those too; I think they just screw and clip onto the internal PCB

Thanks. I'll see if I can find an assembly schematic. What I need more than anything is to know what parts there are involved and then try to price them out from somewhere....hopefully the replacement stuff is decent quality. That's my biggest fear is rebuilding it with something that's not as good as OEM.

I had that happen to my day one edition controller. Basically the plastic that normally rides on the (I believe metal) shaft is lifting up off it's base and causing it to have the snag you mentioned. Mine happened to the left stick. Sounds similar. I ended up trading it in to gamestop and buying a new controller.

well, that's the trade off... I'd see what parts I could get cheapest and take my chances see how long it lasts or just buy a new controller (and not worry so much about it) like others have suggested. I used to rebuild controllers all the time but new ones are cheap enough to forfeit the price of each individual part and you don't have to spend any time tinkering. a lot of people, myself included, actually enjoy tinkering and trying to fix things we already have though so it just depends on what you want to do. I support either method lol

I've seen the teardown of an XB1 controller and it just seems like a major hassle. I'd pay the money for a new one.

If my kids were older, I'd definitely drop money on a new one... My wife doesn't want our 5 year old daughter playing yet and I don't have many 2 player games the kids can handle yet. I may hold off until I find another controller deal somewhere.
