XBOX One and External Drives

How are the external HDDs with the XBOX One? Do you have to worry about drive failure because they are USB drives?

Why would you need to worry about drive failure? As long as you're not moving the drive around a ton when it's in use (assuming it's a spinning platter drive) there should be no concerns.

The risk of failure should be minimal.

External hard drives are as likely to go out as the one in the Xbox One.

With the Xbox One the hard drives in general are more of a cache then anything else. They store content put on their by the disk or downloaded, or game saves which get synced to Xbox Live. In either case if the internal hard drive, or external hard drive goes out you should be able to swap it, and reload the content.

I used a USB 3.0 drive dock and can plug in any SATA HDD into it. That way I can swap the drive out if it gets full. I used an old laptop HDD I had laying around.
