Xbox + monitor + svideo in?

I've seen a couple of VGA adapters that will allow an xbox to run the game to the monitor. One I tried was cheap and could only display in 640 x 480.. needless to say this was not even remotely close to the picture I could get on the television.

I've seen another one that's supposed to be a good model for about 70 bucks.

The question I had was, would there be a way to hook up an xbox through a card that has s-video in and get a decent picture?

If you use a TV tuner with svideo in it will still look like bad. I have one of those expensive VGA adapters it looks completely awesome with in. The xbox games look like computer games. The graphics are very crisp and you can see all the details in the textures. My 17" monitor looks better than my 52" HDTV w/ component now. The adapters are very expensive, but they do give the best picture quality.
 
Which one do you have Dark Knight?

The one that I've seen the most talked about is the xvga adapter.. I think last I checked it was around 70 bucks or so.
 
Can't you just hook it up to the component input on an Radeon 9800 All in Wonder PRO? What I am wondering is, if you can get the video hooked up through component, can you hook up audio anywhere? I haven't bought the AIW yet because of this. I am trying to find out if I can still get my dolby digital 5.1 surround from the PC while I play Xbox on the PC monitor through the AIW component. Any ideas? I have searched some, but I don't think many people have done this due to the price of the card and just plain buying a cheap $200 tv w/ component video. I want to save space (my room is really small).
 
Can't go wrong with this X2VGA. Flawless picture. You can get up to 1080i HDTV quality (as long as your game supports it). Most games are 720p which is still beautiful. I have this thing, so I'm speaking from experience. There's another one out there called the VD-Z3, which can apparently be used with the GC and PS2 as well, but requires a power source (wall outlet).

The AIWs do not have component input (they do have component output, however, to display on an HDTV). They only capture S-Video and composite, and have an analog TV tuner (so you can plug in an antenna or cable feed and watch it). Professional video capture cards that run ~$2K-5K have component input (actually, they usually capture HD-SDI, a common HD editing and broadcast format, but you can get component->HD-SDI transcoders for only a few hundred dollars).

If you want to play XBox on your monitor and have it not suck, get one of the component->VGA transcoders that were being discussed by the other posters in this thread. You can use a KVM switch if you don't have two inputs on your monitor and don't want to plug and unplug it when you want to play. Or get an HDTV and run both the XBox and your computer through it.

On top of the $200 + I just spent on the vid card, I will have to spend ANOTHER $64 just to get Xbox to work with my computer monitor.

don't get me wrong though, I didn't only buy the video card so I could play Xbox on my computer monitor. I needed to upgrade from my Geforce 3 TI 64mb video card. I can't play NFSU 2 on PC because of this thing. At least it's good to know that I don't have to buy a television that would take up more space than I have and not have to deal with a TV's low quality image. Sounds like a great product. I will buy it next week. (but my card will be here this week! 🙂 )

I felt the same way until I saw my Xbox games in all their HDTV glory--a big smile came over my face, and buyer's remorse went out the window.

 
Well, my cousin has the 9600 AIW Pro and says that the only thing I would have to do is plug the RCA audio into my soundcard input and plug the video in and I can get Xbox on my PC monitor. It will be analog only, but it will also be Xbox on my computer monitor. 🙂

Trust me on this. It will look like crap. I did the same thing with an AIW 9800, then tried the X2VGA--there was just no going back to that fuzzy picture. Just do it! You know you wanna! lol
 
Well it looks pretty good to me. My monitor isn't that great right now either (in fact it's the next upgrade), but I am enjoying my xbox games on pc now. I like the way it looks. I wasn't expecting perfect clarity. it is a TV signal after all.

Guess you've never seen Xbox on HDTV then if you can say "it's only a TV signal." You really don't know what you're missing out on. 😛
