Hey y'all,

I was trying to connect my windows xp sp2 computer to my xbox 360 using a wireless network. After finding out that they couldn't connect to each other I called up 1-800-4my-xbox and they told me that I need to uninstall Norton Anti-virus and then connect my xbox to my pc. Then re-install norton. Is there anyway to not have to uninstall Norton?

If they say Norton is the problem then it probably is.

In my opinion Norton is far worse than no virus protection. It is buggy, causes more problems and data loss than any virus, eats resources, and is so bad at finding malware that one only has to sneeze on code to make it undetectable. You may have a problem uninstalling though, Norton doesn't like to be removed and tends to leave peices of itself all over your machine. There are 'norton remover' type programs which may help you.

Avast and Antivir are free antivirus progs with reasonable reputations. Nod32 is excellent, and has very low resource usage too, but it's not free. Much cheaper than Norton though.

I suggest you also run antispyware programs such as microsoft antispyware and adaware. Both are free.

Ummm doesnt the "Media Center" on the 360 require the OS its connecting to to me MS Media Center? Not XP? Thats your problem.
Welcome to MS's HORRIBLE implmentation. Do yourself a favor and get a modded xbox running XBMC for $200 and have it do EVERYTHING the Media Center 360 can do and 100 times more.

Microsoft said all I need is Windows XP SP2. Yes they have media center PC specifically, but also on their list is a regular XP SP2.

No.

If you're going to troll, at least make an attempt to be informed.

I have yet to hear of any feature of the 360's Media Center (not the 360 itself) has that the most current XBox Media Center running on a modded XBox cannot do, with the possible exception of easy SAMBA (Windows Network Share) access. The only issue I can think of is processor speed, which shouldn't matter unless you're playing 1080i video encoded in H.264, or something similarly complex.

I have no thoughts on whether or not the 360 requires XP Media Center or not. If they say it requires only XP SP2, believe 'em, at least for now.

Norton is bloated and a piece of crap nowadays. Antivir (free-av.com) is much better, and that's just the free stuff. If you want to pay for something pick up NOD32 or Kaspersky, which roughly every other month switch between #1 and #2 in best virus protection. They take up a lot less resources than Norton as well.
