Xbox live-yes i'm a noob

So I've been playing halo and I honestly don't know how to play multiplayer on LIVE. I've got 3 days of live gold play with halo, but how do i join a game? I see i can fire up halo and do campaign or whatever and join different lobbies, but where do i actually see games and have the ability to join them?

It seems what I have to do is fire up my game on live and start a campaign and have someone join me?

I'm lost with this. You'd think it would be pretty obvious but its not.

I've read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910732 which shows how to join games, but where do i see the games that are available? I never see games on my screen.

Halo? Halo 2? Halo 3? The original Halo isn't available to play on Live. If it's 2 or 3, choose the Multiplayer option.

From what I have seen you don't directly pick games. You go to "Matchmaking" and select the type of game you want to play. For instance, if you want large team games you would select that option. Then you press "Find Games" or whatever that option is and it seeks the best matches for you with a random game type.

The alternative is to setup your own game, but I haven't messed with that yet.

Yeah it's pretty lame in Halo 3 about the match making, many people love it but I hate it. YOu can't even create a custom public nonranked game. You have to play whatever shitty playlist that you get thrown in to.

Now, I haven't purchased it yet... because I'm not rabid and crazy. But one would deduce that your statement is incorrect simply due to the fact that they included a way to rework all the multiplayer levels with whatever items you want, placed wherever you want.

You're telling me, that I cant just go in and create my own game and have random people join it?

No you can't. You can only have friends/recent players or friends/recent players of other people in your game. Halo never had a great custom game system.

Not being able to start a custom game and have random people join it is probably the biggest thing about halo2/3 that I hate. Actually it's THE reason I never could get into playing halo 2 online.

I don't really care anymore, though. I've got enough people I can invite for a good custom game..

Yea I usually just spam my recent players if I want to get a game together.
