Xbox LIVE setup question (re: ip)

I was going to ask this in another forum but know there are a bunch of LIVE users here in OT.

I was one who got screwed with the DirecTV DSL fiasco. I signed up for SBC-Yahoo DSL the other day (cuz DTV said they had some deal or whatever) The supervisor at SBC said they assign a dynamic IP as opposed to static but that LIVE could handle that fine.

Then I went to work and some dude tells me LIVE won't work with a dynamic IP. Is this something I should worry about? I did a google search and it seemed okay, but I just wanted to ask.

Roadrunner (where I work) sets up Xbox live w/dynamic ip's all the time.

You just don't specify it in the setup.
 
I don't remember. I'm gonna check. I just spazed out when that dude told me a dynamic IP won't allow my LIVE to connect....blech.
 
Yep, it says, "Enter your static ip address, gateway, and subnet mask....Then you click A, and it has a field for "IP ADDRESS"....

 
Just don't specify anything.
It should automatically find your dynamic IP unless ofcourse you're on a router.
Otherwise you'll quickly find out whether your connected or not if you try to create a new account.

Your best bet is to recycle the modem before doing anything.. unplug it from its power source for 2 minutes. (min 90sec) then go from there.


 
Cool, thanks. I haven't even received the new modem from SBC. They cut me off from DirecTV yesterday because, "We have to".

I won't be getting the SBC modem till the 22nd. 🙁

Thanks for your help. I may just cancel SBC tomorrow and go with SPEAKEASY, as I keep hearing good things about them.

Edit: Okay, looks like I'm spazzing for nothing. Apparently you just set it to "Automatic" and your set. *crosses fingers*

thanks for the link Johnlee. i have sbc dsl, its decent. too bad my router got fooked. waiting for the replacement
 
No problema. I was in an hysterical state last night. Glad I pulled through.🙂

I was thinking about a router but am not sure I need to have my puter and xbox on at the same time...LIVE usually consumes every bit of my attention. heh.

Yeah, but it would be nice if there was a second wave of Live! games. The launch was great, but there's
practically been nothing since November.
 
Ghost Recon? Unless that's available in the US, I'm not sure. I think they really need a FPS for it, like Halo online, I know Halo 2 is coming out but not for a while. Of course, there is Gamespy Tunnel....

It hasn't even been two months yet, my man.
I think everybody, including developers, was kinda takin a "wait and see" before committing fully to supporting Live in new games.
With the unqualified success of Live, online play will be considered a "given" by most developers from here on out, IMHO

Even so:
New content for existing games out now.
New content for MA in 5 days!

MA is awesome, simply awesome, voice cummincator works well too. Can't wait for the new content, CTF is essentia.
