Is it really required that you give a credit card when registering your Xbox live? This after you prepay for 1 full year of service?

Yeah I've been using it for awhile but I couldn't pass up Live for 29.99

Another question. Does it connect to live automatically when you turn on your xbox or only when you goto XBox Live?

It only connects if you click on Live in the Dashboard or you connect manually through a game. And almost any paid service nowadays requires a CC.

Gamespy Tunnel sucks ass. XBC is far better. Live overall is the best though, although you can't play certain games online with that like you can XBC

A friend uses that and he said it's slow as all get out... He was trying to play Halo or something on it and said it lagged bad.

What's up with this crap. It keeps telling me a required update is needed to use Xbox live with Mechassault. I already did the update. When I tell it to update, it tries to connect to the xbox live server or wherever it connects to and tells me that "Xbox Live is not responding. Please try again later." Is this a common problem?

I've got the new 2.0 Dashboard (Live screen comes up first thing) It's just when I try to play a game, it tells me that I need to update my Xbox Live

It works perfectly fine with a check card. Almost every bank offers a free MC/VISA check-card with a checking account.

Go open a free checking account at a bank that offers this service.

I got a free checking account, but have to pay $12 a year for a bank-check card. I don't mind it at all. I don't use my check card for online purchases anymore, to risky. I'd rather have my credit card number stolen then I can fight the charges easier. :)

My bank offered a free check-card with free checking. Since Live! doesn't actually charge your card, you can put the minimum the bank allows in there.

It's mostly the princple of the matter. I don't like giving out cc info to anyone unless they need it and Microsoft does not need it.

It's mainly to confirm that you are either a) 18 years of age or older or b) have your parent's consent. And, most importantly, they will need a way to charge you when your subscription comes up for renewal.

Personally, I think they need to offer gift cards that can be purchased in stores that can be used on Live!. I think that is something they are starting in Europe. Not sure though.

I couldn't agree more... If Halo with lag is your idea of a friend.

Just refreshed XBC. Out of 74 servers: 1 game of Ghost Recon, 1 game of SW: Clone Wars, 2 games of Brute Force, 70 games of Halo.

XBC is not that great. The only positives are that you can play Halo on it and that it's free. I rarely ever fire it up, as it's just a PITA to find a decent game.

That's why you play with friends. Or cousins :)
