Xbox Live free month...where's the code?

So, as we all know by now, my lovely girlfriend got me a Holiday edition Xbox Elite. So you'd figure this thing comes with a month of XBL, but I can't find the code. There's a card with a bunch of stuff about Beatles rock band, and two codes for avatars and stuff but nothing about a month of XBL gold. In the manual packet, there's something for a free month of Xbox Magazine (I'll pass, thanks). There's a quickstart guide, an "explore your xbox" guide, and the care for your xbox guide.

What gives? Am I missing something here?

You just start up your xbox and start creating your xbox live gold account. You won't need to enter any code. It'll allow you to select the 1 month trial

Can I do this if I already imported a gamertag that used the 1 month trial? Cuz my old roomie bought an xbox, and I used a one month trial on a gamertag I set up. I actually bought a 12 month card, but my plan was to use the 1 month trial for this [new] xbox (on a different gamertag, I assume, it doesnt' really matter to me) and then go back and use "my" gamertag with my 12 month card (it'd be great if I could get a bonus month for that too, but not essential).

So did I ruin the one month free by importing my gamertag? Can I use a new one? (I think I tried to do this already, but I'll try it again).

And just for future reference, any new gamertag you start on xbox live silver will get a free month of gold up to a limit... which I believe is 5 per console.
