Ok so this really baked my noodle, but today after a few weeks of not being on xbox live I get a message saying that an important system message was waiting for me that must be read before I can play xbox live...so I go and read the message and it says that due to policy changes my gamertag "D o c Holliday" is no longer allowed and I must change it in order to play on live....so I read the TOS and sure enough there is a new line there that says names which reference historical characters will not be allowed....sorry but personally I think this is crap, I have had this id for quite some time and now in an effort to be more PC I am forced to think of something that sucks or isn't tied in with anything?? heck I was even a beta tester for live....

I am almost tempted to sell my xbox and cancel live just because of this....heck I didn't play that much to begin with but this is just silly....

sorry for my rant.

that's wierd, why would they do that. Maybe they don't want gamers named Bin Laden or Saddam.

now just waiting for the posts about how this violates freedom of speech.

Valid rant. That's crappy, though borderline understandable. Now if your name was "Professor Holiday" and they made you change it I'd say it was complete and utter s%$#. It's a parody name; it's funny. It's like when I play online with the name Johnny Mortgage. Or Abe Lincoln Log. Or Howard Sterno.

...

Okay, I never play with any of those names except Johnny Mortgage. :p

Suck it up, come up with an original name, and go back to occasionally playing Xbox live.

I don't get people that can't come up with something original for a handle for online stuff.

Is it that hard to come up with a name that isn't copyrighted or related to something historic?

you cant be learning about history while playing on xbox live.

Yeah, it's stupid. All the attempts at PC in this world just seem to manage to irritate those who aren't being insensitive in the first place.

That being said... I'm not sure this issue is really something to get so upset about. It's just a nickname, after all... Nothing to take so damn seriously.

No idea why they would do that... maybe someone was being a dick and starting playing with the gamertag Hitler and vowed to destroy all the Jewish players?

I know it is their right to do whatever they want, but it isn't like I have a name that is really "bad" I mean "D o c Holliday" heck most people don't even know who he was other than what they saw in the movies....

saw online that it is been talked to death on the forums ...something to do with people taking the names first or what not? sounds like crap.

That's my first guess. Runners up go to players using the tags "OsamaBinLaden" and "Saddam/Uday/QusayHussein". Along with that guy who had the nick "Iama911hijacker".
