XBox Live - Auto Renewal nightmare

Ok, I love XBox Live but this auto renewal crap is BS! So apparently you can't turn this thing off online which is freaking annoying. Even worse, when my year membership is up and I renew it, the auto renewal turns back on and I have to call back in to turn it off. And if you remove your CC from the system and your membership expires, you have to go through this whole ordeal to renew your subscription. Seriously, WTF?!

Anyone have an easier way to keep this thing from auto renewing? I prefer to use my XBox Live cards that I paid $30 for instead of the standard $60 auto renewal rate.

Remove your CC, never put it back on there, and only use the cards? Seems fairly easy to me.

You have to call to have the CC removed. I have a CC still on my account that expired in 2007... Why I can't remove this from my Xbox? I don't know.

XBL Auto Renewal is a joke, they used to have it set up where you could turn it off on their site, but they removed it, and now you have to call and wade through a bunch of prompts and transfers just to have someone preach to you about how turning off auto renewal is a bad thing. I did it, and then they refused to remove my Discover card from the system, so I just went in and edited the credit card information with incorrect expiration, address, and name so if they try to charge it, it'll fail.

F Microsoft for this kind of stuff, seriously. Once my Gold sub is up this time, I'm done with that.

And yet XBL remains king. It is a nightmare but the experience is awesome, especially when compared to PSN.

Doesn't really seem much different to me, the only reason I signed up for Gold this last time was because it was $30 and they require Gold to take and share photos in Kinect titles and because Netflix was still disc based on the PS3 at the time. Otherwise, if anything, it's more of a hassle to make my way through the disaster of a UI that the 360 suffers from. Hopefully the new UI update will be better.

I have always purchased Gold cards to renew my membership but I still buy MS points using a credit card instead of buying points cards. Never had them try to automatically renew my XBL Gold.

OP, it sounds like you're canceling auto-renewal, and then renewing your XBL Gold through the console with your credit card. I know it's a dumb feature, but apparently if you buy XBL Gold through the console instead of buying Gold cards, it will auto-renew no matter what. So you need to get them to turn off auto renewal for good and then only buy Gold cards from then on.

If that's what you did and they're still auto-renewing, then I see the problem.

You know, I think I did renew through the console. I remember now that they were offering Gold memberships for like $30 on XBox Live and I bought it with my saved CC. Hmmm, ok, that may clear things up.

Thanks Astro!

Are you talking about the feature that gives away your personal information for free. Yes, I think I'll pass on that one. ;)

PSN isn't getting any worth while features IMO. The XBox Live network is still better and the PSN still doesn't have unified chat. So again, you get what you pay for.

A lot of pissing and moaning in this thread. I have my CC saved and I'm always aware of when my current sub expires (April 3rd, 2012 at the moment). If I want to cancel, I'm pretty sure I can take 10 minutes of my insanely busy lifestyle to cancel over the phone.

Clearly you've never tried calling them before for this. It takes more than 10 minutes.
