How important is it to get one of the HD units over the 4gb flash? Just plan on having one for a kid to play some kinect stuff on, no live service and used as an extender otehrwise.

They support up to a 32gb USB drive now, which is fine for casual gamers. The 4gb Kinect and the 250gb without kinect both cost the same.

Yeah just plug in a cheap USB memory stick. Up to 32GB.

They go on sale all the time too.

I only recently found out the thing tolerates flash drives (yeah I'm lame). Anyway, this is from a couple years ago about performance of a flash vs HD:

FWIW I see for $20-22 a bunch of 32 GB flash on amazon now.

Your kid does not need an HD. They are nicer, not just for downloaded content, but games are quieter and do load faster.
