Xbox Gamepass to include all future MS titles on release day

This is an interesting development. All future MS titles will be part of Gamepass on release day.

Sea of Thieves will be the first one March 20. Followed by State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 at some point.

Now if only they would invest in some more games...

In unrelated news, there are reports that Play Anywhere titles that are part of Gamepass (Gears 4, recore, etc.) will install on Windows 10 for free, seems like a bug...

Sounds like MS xBox/Windows exclusives. Not a bad move. Though I'm against exclusives in general it's apparently, sadly necessary for consoles.

Hmmm that is interesting. So now instead of paying $60 for a brand new game, you can pay $10 for it as long as you beat it in a month.

Sounds great for consumers, terrible for MS.

Maybe they are banking on people buying into it and paying $10 a month for over a year rather than buying one game at $60 and then skipping 4 or 5 titles. They can make more money potentially if people forget to cancel and get a recurring bill every month. Plus part of me feels like MS is struggling to stay relevant these days since they really don't have many compelling exclusives to talk about, at least not for me.

You hit the nail on the head. They have very few exclusives in general plus hardly any coming out soon. They are in dire need of people buying into their platform. They are doing anything to get people to buy an Xbox. It's great though because that's a killer deal.

I bought an Xbox almost exclusively for Forza and Halo but that's it. I haven't turned on my Xbox in a while because the better games are on PlayStation.

Their play anywhere thing where you buy a game and can play it on PC and Xbox has to be hurting them because it just means that there's less reason for someone to own an Xbox. Does Xbox have any truly exclusive games that you can only play on Xbox that are coming out?

it seems to me that MS views a game played on Windows as a win, so it doesn't seem like there will be any true xbox exclusives in the future. Hard to say though. Waiting for the day when they announce that you can play windows games on xbox (practically the same thing now).

sea of thieves was incredibly boring when I played the alpha in December, but it really seemed to have potential if they added a ton of content to it. the current beta doesn't seem to be much different, though it is currently the #1 streamed game on twitch.

Which is good for Microsoft but not too good for the Xbox console itself.

How does Gamepass work for drive space? Are you constantly downloading/deleting games or is it via streaming?

I believe you download the game.

Yeah, it is download, essentially the same as if you had bought the game digitally. I have no complaints about the service itself, worked well enough for me (I had a free 2 month sub with my One X). I wasn't hopping around a bunch of games though (pretty much finished Recore, Gears:UE, and some random older games like Soul Caliber 2, Banjo Kazooie, etc.). If you think you would be hopping around a lot this could be a negative.

Also they have quests for Gamepass, so you can get free stuff by playing certain games (the past 2 months I have gotten 1 month live and the Assasins Creed movie, prize is somewhat random).

I cancelled my current sub since I just bought Witcher 3 over the holiday sale, so I am good for games for the next several months (only can play an hour or 2 a day). Might resub later this year once Crackdown is released. It is really a good deal IMO.
