I'm going to pick up an X-Box here in a bit and due to a $50 rebate at Gamestop (Buy XBox bundle + 2 Games + $20 accessory and get $50 rebate, so 4 games + accessory + S Controller + Xbox for $270 AR) I need to pick out two games to buy. My copy of THPS4 came in and that's definately game #1 but I'm not sure what to get for the second game. Any recommendations?

I'm not really interested in a sports or racing game and I'm DEFINATELY not interested in Halo or Buffy.

House of the Dead 3? Are you into those kinda games? What about Blinx (or some sort of Mario/Sonic type adventure game?)

The *ahem* physics model of DOA3 is interesting, to say the least.
Don't forget the upcoming DOA:XBV (especially if there is a topless mode! :p)

Or:
Time Splitters 2
Blood Wake (mission-based vehicle combat)
Wreckless (mission-based vehicle combat, mostly)
Morrowind (RPG)
Crash Bandicoot (platform)
Genma Onimusha (weapon fighter)
Hitman 2

You could also pre-order:
Unreal Championship (Xbox Live)
MechAssault (Xbox Live)
Shenmue II
Steel Battalion (if you're Scrooge McDuck, that is :D)
MGS2: Substance (still a ways off)
Brute Force
Splinter Cell
Soul Calibur II (a ways off)
Crimson Skies (still a ways off)

Very true. Maybe I should start reading the entire post, huh? :p

But I still think he should get halo because it's the only game I've bought for the Xbox that I haven't traded in a month later.

Other good games:
Buffy (even though you specifically rejecetd it, it's still a great game...and I hate TV-to-Game conversions)
The Thing (Think Resident Evil meets Half Life)
TimeSplitters 2

And keep a lookout for Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus. Right now there isn't much info out there other than hype and some screenshots, but everyone agrees this game has the potential to be one of the greatest fighter games EVER! Jon Tobias of Mortal Kombat fame is heading up the project.

1. Imagine a fighting environment that's fully interactive. Are there poles in this room? Great, grab one while jumping away from your opponent, swing around and kick him in the face! That trash can isn't there just for show, is it? What bout those swords in that display case? Grab your opponent, throw him into the case, and while he's down pick up a sword and start hacking! I can go on and on about breaking through walls, windows, doors, ceilings and floors etc., messing around with fire, water, electricity, sharp objects, blunt objects, ANYTHING you can think of.

2. Imagine being able to SEE the damage you inflict on your opponents. Slashes across the face yield the appropriate scars. Blood drips ever more profusely from your victi..er..opponent's body. Hurt fighters tuck in their injured parts and move slower. When their damage meter reaches a critical point, Limb Damage begins to occur. Hear their bones break, and watch them lose their use of arms and legs!

Just to clear something up, Halo 2 is not expected for another year. November 2003 I believe, so don't let that stop you for buying a different great game in the mean time. I would suggest Hitman 2 or Lord of the Rings. Just look around for somthing that you might like and bring it up here. We can tell you if it's good or not ;)

NFL 2k3 (gotta have a sports multiplayer game for get togethers, and this is the best IMO, plus it is XBox live compatable)
Tony Hawk 4 is a good choice. I have 3 and will probably pick up 4.
Halo for sure. (I know you said you're not interested)
Splinter Cell preorder
Timesplitters 2

If you like Tony Hawk, you'll probably like SSX Tricky.

Also, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is a good platformer (if you are into that kind of thing.)

if you're not interested in Halo... don't get an X-Box IMHO. I've bought about 6 games for the XBox and that's the only game i ever spent more than 10-15 hours on. (in fact i still play that game every week)

Halo is the defining XBox game, and even with Halo i'm still questioning whether or not xbox was the system i should've got

There are MANY more games than just Halo to make the Xbox a worthwhile purchase. MotoGP, SegaGT 2002, DOA3, TWS, plus the best looking Sega Sport titles out!

But this is just my humble opinion.

GT3, GTA3, Metal Gear 2, Tekken 4, are all either better or the same as most X-Box games. Halo is the only X-Box game that has yet to be duplicated (gameplay-wise, story-wise, success-wise) on another console.

That's rather subjective to who you are asking. GT3- Yes, it is a better game that Sega GT2002, but not by much, not worth buying a PS2 over an Xbox IMHO. GTA3- Yes, kicks royal arse, I am seriously consedering getting a PS2 just so I can have GTA:VC. Metal Gear 2- Xbox is getting a Metal Gear game, and personally, as it looks like it is shaping up to be, Splinter Cell is going to walk all-over Metal Gear 2. Tekken 4? Lets wait till SC2 and DOA4 come out before we start saying who has better fighting games. :D

Deathrow has been getting some really good reviews.

If you can wait two weeks, Mech Assault is coming out. Splinter Cell will be out in about 4 weeks.

That deathrow looks really good, I may have to get that one!

Yeah it does, I have been trying to talk my brother into spliting the difference with me on that one, but I am just have to go pick it up myself!
