XBOX Exposed.. literally :)

<< Now did they really need to include three consecutive pictures of Pat unscrewing the XBox? >>

I think that Pat has clause in his contract requiring this..

<< It seems like the Pentium CPU has a HS but no fan while the nVIDIA GPU has both! >>

It has a fan right behind it.. (exhaust fan)

That is the best way of doing it... expell the hot air right out of the system from the PIII hs and the GPU too.. good idea!

the PentiumIII doesn't even run hot anyways, that exhaust fan should be plenty 😀

<< Awwww man! The CPU is SOLDERED!!!! >>

Nothing a steady hand a soldering iron can't fix 🙂
Question is will it recognize a faster chip...more than likely not without some other mods. I'm guessing that the multiplier and fsb are hard coded into it to prevent such an 'upgrade' 🙁

"Evergrenn should come up with a product that includes desoldering kits and an Athlon 4 upgrade chip. "

Considering the P3 uses the GTL bus and the Athlon uses the EV6 that might be a little trickey to pull off, even for the wizards at EverGreen.

Unless you have access to a surface mount soldering station, I would not even think about soldering on the Xbox. In this case, the only thing a steady hand & a soldering iron will get you is a $300 door stop.. or keychain 🙂

Yah it is surface mount soldered on. From what I understand, you need a multi-thousand dollar solder station to get it off cleanly. Even then, you can not replace the CPU as the board is probably locked. Spend the money/time on a NForce PC 🙂

Yeah, I think we're gonna be seeing some tupperware Xbox mods and probably some xbox mod guides over at places like VH.. looking forward to it. I like the cooling, it looks like you get a nice shute with the hard drive up top, a nice little funnel for the air to get sucked out of. Probably does get pretty hot though.

I wonder how long before someone comes out with a PC program that emulates the XBox so you can just play the games on your PC.
