Here's the thought I had today. All I can do is think since I haven't got my pre-ordered system yet...If Microsoft can make an XBOX emulator for the 360, what keeps someone from making a PS2 or Gamecube emulator for the 360? I know it would never be sanctioned by M$, but can you imagine how popular the thing would become if it could be backwards compatible with everything? Someone has to be working on that!

Because they would need to know EXACTLY how ithe PS2 or Gamecube runs. Reverse engineering will only get you so far.

Plus the GPUs and other components do not work the same and may not support the same functions. There is no API standard like OpenGL or DirectX for the PC that is used for consoles. Xbox supposedly uses DirectX for it's games, but the PS2 and Gamecube are 100% proprietary.

How about a xbox emulator for my pc then :)

If it is anything like the n64 I saw running on the pc then you can really up the res and everything making the xbox games look like x360 games or better;)

Actually that should be a lot done than said given it's a stripped down PC running a modified Win2k kernel, but it's not

The problem is that you can up the resolution on them all you want, but they would need extensive reworking to look as good or better than 360 games. Extensive retexturing (much more difficult now, as textures are much more complex and would need more reworking).

Take an older game like the original Half-Life. Sure you can up the resolution so it runs 1920x1080, but HL2 at 640x480 will still look better.
