Xbox DVD Player vs a better one

How does the Xbox with component output compare to a better DVD player, like the Samsung HD upconvertor? I have a HD TV, but I can only have one of these units at the moment. I'm thinking of going with the Xbox so I can play some games too, but how much of a difference is there? If it was like a 50-100% better picture, I would have to go with the DVD player. Your thoughts? Links? The xbox is not progressive scan.
