KBkids.com has the DVD kit for $29.99 in stock, ebworld has it in stock for $34.99. Also the mad catz racing wheel is on sale for $49.99 on kbkids.com, usually goes for $59.99. The only coupons I know of is the $5 off $40 and use ebates for 2%. The coupon can be found on ebates also.

Yes, you need the kit to play dvds (basically you need the dongle that plugs into a usb port to enable dvd playback).

Rumor has it that the dongle (and thus the remote) are RCA compatible -- i.e., you can then use a universal remote set to RCA DVD codes if you don't want to use the XBox DVD remote.

Anything is possible, but I would imagine that since Microsoft is using some sort of device to "unlock" DVD playback, 3rd parties would need to figure out how to make a compatible unlocking device to do this. My guess is that its somewhat complicated since nobody else has managed to make a DVD remote for X-Box, and I would imagine if a 3rd party did decide to make a remote for X-Box they would need to pay a licensing fee to the DVD consortium, which might increase the cost of the remote.

So short answer is, right now no. Long answer is that its possible, but don't expect it in the very short term (as in, none have been announced yet).
